<br>She rcd. [received] a long letter from <u>Bill Dohrmann</u>. He rejected all of <u>Alan Newman</u>'s
things, but said that Alan showed great promise and he was sure that he
would eventually hit. No mention of my things.
<br>Bill said that what is really important is a theme and the <s>circus</s>
circus theme in Alan's <u>PARKER BROTHERS' THREE RING CIRCUS</u> just wasn't
interesting enough to enough people. Felicia said that they (she and
Alan?) were compiling lists of themes. She thought that a "Flower Show"
theme would be great - there are flower clubs in every town and village. I
said that I was afraid that it would be like games on stamp collecting;
people like to do it rather than play games on it. She thought the "gossip
columnist" theme was a good one.

Called <u>Leonard Willett</u> and set date for me to come there on Saturday 4/9
at [illegible strikeout] 9:30. Told him about Aladdin and he said to write and ask them
to confirm the amount in writing.

At Calder bought four boxes (25 1/2" x 13 3/4" x 9 3/8") - 99¢ each.
<br>At Weber's bought two 1977 National diaries - 77¢ each.

Rcd. [received] the 6 copies each of <u>BEYOND SOLITAIRE</u> and <u>BEYOND WORDS</u> that I asked
<u>Fay Hartog</u> to have sent to me for possible promotion - and to replace some I gave
out a Toy Fair time.

Call from <u>Bob Gellman</u>, mainly to see how I felt. Told me of a good order he
got for <u>PATTON</u> and <u>MACARTHUR</u>.

From <u>MAH JONGG</u> league BB got ad for <u>MAH JONGG PLAYING CARDS</u> ($6.95)
Mentions play by 2 & 3, as well as four. (Discarded.)

Call from <u>Claude</u>. Talked about my trip yesterday. He feels that if I had pushed
a theme hard I probably would have a commission to do a game. He wondered if the
book <u>IDLE PASSION</u> came up, since it was put out by Playboy. He mentioned a book
<u>SNEAKY FEATS</u> which presents puzzles that are standards in a clever way.

Sent letter Aladdin (Don Louge) asking for written statement of my
1976 royalties.

hand thinking games, <u>Andrea Green</u> says that Parker thinks there will
be a big market for them.
<br>Phil told me about a solitaire he once devised using a deck of cards to
set up teams (what sport?) and then play by drawing a card from
each pile. There were rules for trading and drafting of players
that favored the weaker team - name <u>TEAM SEASON</u>. I noted on the
similarity in spirit to my <u>LOTTO WAR</u>. I also brought up Conway's <u>LIFE</u>.
He asked if could get a repros [reproductions] of the <u>SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN</u> article on it;
I found that I had a duplicate and gave it to him.
