26 Wednesday - January 1977
26th day - 339 days to come
As Phil Orbanes had suggested, I called Jules Cooper about coming there
with THE RIGHT WORD. We agreed on Thurs. [Thursday] of next week as a good
goo day, but he said to finalize it with Phil. I asked if he would be in
on the meeting and he said he'd try, but couldn't be sure.
Called Phil and left word to call me back and he did. Set the date for
2/3 at 2:00 P.M. I wanted to talk about it but he was busy. He'll
call me back early next week.
Call from Stan Durham. Bob Gellman had asked him to send MACARTHUR &
PATTON to Walter Luc Haas, but he didn't know whether to send it
surface on air. I had him check the prices and for the 12 games the
surface cost would be abt. [about] $12.50 and air about $57.00. We decided
that I would check with Walter. The cost of each game is $4.50.
Since Fay Hartog hadn't called, I called her. Not in but she called later. She
investigated and discovered that Walter would have to get copies of my
books thru a rep they have in Europe. I have Fay his, Walter's, address
and the rep will get in touch with him.
Airgramme to Walter Luc Haas. Mentioned BEYOND WORDS and that I have a
deadline for #4 of the series. Gave him info on PATTON & MACARTHUR and
mentioned WEEKEND IN VEGAS, MOVIE MOGULS, and CREATURE FEATURES, and HOLIDAY.
Mentioned "Gamut of Games" going out of business and A.H. taking over Aladdin's
games. Told him he should hear from Pantheon rep. should contact him.
Asked if he rcd. [received] OUTREACH, NAPOLEON'S LAST BATTLES, WESTWALL (QUAD),
BLUE & GRAY II, NORTH AFRICA (QUAD), and RUSSIAN CIVIL WAR.
Told him I'd like a copy of VIADUCT and info on SATELLIT and JANUS.
Also looking forward to catalogs from Nürnberg.
In connection with his being my agent mentioned TRANSFORMATION,
BAZAAR (being looked at by large company), ODD OR EVEN, SLY 6.
Call from Felicia. Question on BACKGAMMON - she is playing with a
house guest - that I could answer. She asked if I remembered a
word game called LEXIKOS. No. A Malcolm C. Fargrave wrote to her
concerning this game of his as if he had been in contact before. She
also couldn't remember anything about it.
She has been hearing from Kent Wilcoxson and he is a "fuddy duddy."
She hears (from whom?) that Harper & Row gave a five figure
advance on SADIE! I told her that I heard it was done by a V.P. there.
She has been trying to contact Neal Kublan of Mego about SPACE BOXES
but can't get him there - and he doesn't call back.
She wrote to Bill Dohrmann covering their keeping I'LL TAKE THAT
and ANOTHER - SULTAN for consideration. Told him that she thought
SULTAN was a great name.
She is trying to find the one to contact at Gabriel.
A new client, Andy Field, has some interesting "Shape" GAMEs. He
has some patents and Jules Cooper (I believe) is considering one of
his patented balancing games. He also has some previous contacts with
Western. He has some partners, which she doesn't care for - since
one of them can foul up a deal.
All her new clients are agreeing to a 50% agent's fee - which
leave 25% for me. I said only if I do something to earn it.
