Articles on CHESS. Rules for CALCULATOR SOLITAIRE from THE POCKET CALCULATOR GAME BOOK.
In Carmel in a game store looked at STACK 'N PLAY CHESS. The
54 card deck is divided as follows: 7 king, 8 rook, 8 bishop,
8 knight, 9 queen, 12 pawn, 2 wild. Each player has one deck.
Not quite sure, but I believe that in the standard game
each player shuffles one deck. They must move the pcs. [pieces] as
the cards come, but can look at the order in which the
cards will be coming. Castling can be done if either a rook
card or a king card is in turn. (can a player castle, thru "check: it
the checking pc. is not scheduled to move next?) (This and other
specific questions on how check was handled were, to the best
of my memory, not covered.)
As a variation, the other of the coming cards is not looked at.
Another variation plays without pawns. Another gives each player
two cards of each pc., including pawns. Each player secretly
arranges them in any order he wishes. When played the cards
are arranged again. Etc. This variation can be played with
3 of each pc., 4, etc. - until the entire deck is prearranged.
