JULY 1976 . FRIDAY 9
191ST DAY . 175 DAYS TO COME
----
call from <u>Joe Scott</u>. They will seeing someone from M.B. [Milton Bradley] in the
not-too-distant future. He was thinking of showing them <u>GROOVE</u>
with his new idea and also trying to talk them into reviving
<u>HIGH SPIRITS</u>. I said fine an <u>GROOVE</u>, but there is no point in
trying to bring something back.

Called <u>Fabio</u> to tell him that <u>JOYCE</u> is really better with colors,
if he wants to use it for the cover of <u>BEYOND WORDS</u>.
Called <Phil Orbanes</u> to see how <u>SUPERHEROES</u> was coming. He is
working on other things because it is vacation period and it
is quite there.
As a piece of information he told me that <u>Marvin Glass</u> associates
is falling behind in 3-D toys and games and that <u>Ned Strongin</u>
is becoming #1. I told him that I had had some dealings with
Strongin and that he wants too big a cut.
Phil took the model of <u>THE WINNING TICKET</u> to the ad agency and
they loved it-refusing telephone calls while they played. They
are discussing the TV ads. Phil also told them about <u>SUPERHEROES</u>
and they liked the concept.
I told Phil that A.H. [Avalon Hill] might be interested in <u>RED LETTER</u> and asked
whether there is much chance at Ideal. He said that there is
a possibility for '78 - but if I can place it elsewhere, by all means
do so.
He said that if I can come up with a <u>SAFE CRACKER</u> game by
the end of this year it would be a natural for '78. He
sees it as requiring deduction to crack various safes-the
more difficult ones giving greater rewards. A gimmick for
operating the safes would be desirable, but cards would do.
Told him about someone (<u>Wald</u>) wonking on a safe-cracking
game for Hasbro. Phil thinks that Hasbro will not be in games
for several years.
Phil has been negotiating with <u>Graeme Levin</u> about his writing for
<u>G&P</u>, possibly a regular feature. He asked me about pay-
ment. I told him that I get games, etc. instead - but that
the payment is rather low.
Phil ran into <u>Dave Isby</u>, who told Phil he is happier at S.P.1.
now that they are letting him write feature articles. Also
things are doing so well that <u>Jim Dunnigan</u> is finally taking
a $30,000 salary.
Made the changes in <u>TOLSTOY</u> and <u>DICKENS</u> that we discussed Weds.
Also rewrote <u>JOYCE</u>.

Phil F. brought me last week's <u>TIMES</u> magazine section, with an arti-
cle on <u>BLACKJACK</u> in Vegas. Phil also said that he doesn't have
access to <u>MONEY</u> magazine at his office.
