JANUARY 1976 - WEDNESDAY 7
7TH DAY - 359 DAYS TO COME

To Fabio Coen at 11 and stayed there until 5:45, breaking for lunch at Nippon Restaurant (in Japanese style room).

Fabio loved PINBALL and PROFIT & LOSS. He didn't like FOUR COLOR, ALONE TOGETHER and NO WAY as much - but he liked them.

He wanted two more word games and two more solitaire games, but we compromised on one or each. He said he had them working on a contract, but hasn't decided on which one of whether to go with both. Possibly one to go this fall and an option on the other for spring publication. He'll talk to the sales force. I'm to come up with the two new games and write the rules for those games he doesn't have the rules for - before the end of January.

I asked, and he said that Barbara Weinstein had contacted him about the press release she was to write on my fall book.

While Fabio was occasionally busy I made phone calls to cover bases I had intended to visit:

Called BB and Felicia had called her. Called Felicia and she wanted to know if I had heard from Bob Gellman concerning our royalties. No.

Called Marilyn Nierenberg to see if the check for the picture had been rcd. (it hadn't cleared last statement). Yes. Told her that I still haven't start receiving THE FAMILY CREATIVE WORKSHOP. She said to wait until the end of January. If I still haven't rcd. it I should contact [drawn bracket] Sheryl Johnson
[drawn bracket] Time/Life Books
[drawn bracket] JU6-1212

Called S.P.I. to see if Richard Berg had left 1829 there. Howie Barasch had left already and I asked Pat (who answered the call) to have Howie call me tomorrow morning if he had the game.

While I was out BB rcd. calls from the following:
Martin Gardner - call him tonight.
John Stephenson - call him tomorrow.
Art Bernstein - call him Friday.

Rcd. letter from Jim Scully. Mentioned Don Miller's publications.

Rcd. SCRABBLE PLAYERS NEWSPAPER (Vol. 3 / No. 6).

Called Martin Gardner. A women in the educational field wrote to him concerning an educational device she invented. There are cubes representing various terms in "The Propositional Calculus." When these are piles and a marble is entered at the top, chutes in the cubes will lead the marble to the right answer. She was interested in an agent. Gave Martin Felicia's address, telling him however that she wasn't strong in the educational field. He just wants a name to send.

A press agent from Gabriel sent him a copy of a game OTHELLO together with a release saying that it was invented by a Japanese engineer and that it had sold 3,000,000 copies in Japan. Martin answered, telling the press agent that it was simply REVERSI and they were crazy to pay royalties. No answer. He'll give me the set - which is quite attractive.
