<br>November 1975 - Wednesday 5 | |||
<br>309th day - 56 days to come | |||
---- | |||
To <u>Bob Gellman</u>. Brought him the rules - with diagrams for | |||
<u>THE GAME CUBE</u>. He was happy with them - but I tried to convince him to | |||
read them over, or have someone else do it - I might have had a blind spot. | |||
He said he'd try. | |||
<br>Bob told me to send him a bill for the $500. | |||
<br>When Bob bought Itemation's assets he acquired a giant checker game, with | |||
the right to use a mold for the giant checkers. But somehow the mold | |||
ended up with a "mechanic's lein" and was sold to Cardinal. The heads | |||
of Cardinal are friends of <u>Douglas Polumbaum</u>, but Bob took it philo- | |||
sophically. He asked if I knew a supplier of giant checkers - there | |||
would be a good "finder's fee." Unfortunately - no. | |||
<br>Bob had a game there - <u>CARD CHES</u>. It was put on independently and | |||
the inventor - an advertising man - and he approached Bob about | |||
selling it. Bob suggested Brentanos on his own. The fellow didn't | |||
connect at Brentano's but has sold the 500 he had manufactured to | |||
various stores. Now he wants to put out another 5000, which Bob told | |||
him was quite a gamble. I borrowed the set to get repros at | |||
S.P.I. <s>A</s> | |||
<br>Also borrowed <u>ENERGY CRISIS GAME</u> to reproduce. Looked at <u>SET POINT</u> | |||
but it didn't seem that the board would reproduce in black and | |||
white, and it was complicated, so left it for another time. | |||
<br>To S.P.I. <u>Howie Barasch</u> saw the TV ad for Ideal's <u>TANK COMMAND</u> | |||
and was surprised that they are advertising it for an adult audi- | |||
ence. He wonders if they made any surveys of the war game poten- | |||
tial, and if he could get it from them. Told him that Ideal is | |||
usually very secretive. We both felt that ads like that would | |||
help S.P.I. when potential war gamers saw how childish that | |||
Ideal game is. | |||
<br>Made repros of the material for <u>CARD CHES</u> and <u>ENERGY CRISIS GAME</u>. | |||
Spoke to <u>Jim Dunnigan</u>. He was interested in sales of <u>PATTON</u> and | |||
<u>MACARTHUR</u>. Told him about 10,000 for former and less for latter. | |||
<br>The N.Y. area rep who handles A.H. is going to drop them and | |||
take S.P.I. - <s>his suggestion</s> he approached S.P.I. Jim will | |||
put about a dozen games in bookshelf boxes - and with mounted | |||
boards - for this operation. | |||
<br>Jim mentioned that Howie had a copy of A.H.'s <u><s>FIGHT</s>BEAT INFLATION STRATEGY</u>. | |||
Checked with Howie; he has it at home to play with <s>wife</s> his | |||
wife. He got it personally from Randy Reed I believe. | |||
<br>In talking with Jim I mentioned that it must gall A.H. to | |||
send him royalties. He agrees. He has made about $30,000 on | |||
<u>PANZERBLITZ</u> - the best seller. | |||
<br>Took another copy of <u>FAST CARRIERS</u>. Also three copies of <u>MOVES</u> no. 23. | |||
Called BB and she said that there was a call from <u>Al Zygier</u>. | |||
<br>To R.G.I. to return <u>CARD CHES</u> and <u>ENERGY CRISIS GAME</u>. | |||
<br>To "Gamut of Games." While waiting for <u>Phil Orbanes</u> to get out | |||
of a conference looked at <u>THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT</u> and | |||
<u>THE SENSUOUS GAME</u> and later asked for, and got, copies, | |||
