October 1975 - Thursday 16
289th day - 76 days to come
Call from Barbara Weinstein. Arranged time and place for
meeting Saturday. I wanted to discuss what I would do in
detail but she said to take it as it comes (which proved to be
the right approach).
Call from Felicia. Herb Roth sent referred to her an inventor - Mr. Kinik -
who invented a game like MEM, which he has a patent on. He
knows of me thru AGOG and he mentioned THE MATCH GAME -
which makes me think he meant NIM rather than MEM, since
Felicia spoke to him on the phone - but both she and Herb
think it was MEM. He'd like me to see the game. She'll set
date for next Thurs. [Thursday] at 2 and I'll probably be there.
Vincent Grissino brought her the model of SHIFT and it was
beautiful. She'll try to have him come Thurs. at 3. He's
taking Kantrell to court, which makes Felicia nervous. She won-
ders whether to handle his game. I said that the only places
I could think of whe were Aladdin - who have PUSHOVER - and
Parker who flopped with SQUARE OFF. She said that Grissino
had a nice rejection letter from Parker.
I told her that I might not be able to make it Thurs. because,
thru "Gamut of Games," I had to meet with a celebrity. She said
that she certainly didn't want to pry, but wanted to ask one
question. She asked is it had anything to do with word games -
specifically QUICKSAND. Definitely not.
She asked if she should send my check for the DAISY article, or
hold it for when I was there. Said I'd pick it up.
Henry Se Henryk Szwarce has had his friend, Rolf Myller,
contact her. He mentioned me and I said that the name
is familiar but I don't recollect the details. Can look it up in diary - but she said not to bother.
Myller has 10 games - one sexy based on a book of his -
"Fantasy" - which either was just published or will be.
One of his games is being considered by Jack Jonathon - who
Felicia knows is a big shot at Hallmark. Myller never heard
of Bob Johnson.
Felicia mentioned that Jim Goldsberry has terminal cancer.
I told Felicia about Moses Goldman and RACING FANS. She and
Herb are annoyed with him. They kept asking him if he
was sure he could use the name RUMMIKUB. Now it develops
that he can't. They are changing it to RUMMY-TILE (which
is really a better name) but it loses time in changing the box.
Going over material for Bloomingdale's Saturday. Took notes on the
following: from BOARD AND TABLE GAMES FROM MANY CIVILIZATIONS -
DARA (which seems interesting), THREE MEN'S MORRIS, SIX MEN'S MORRIS,
GO-BANG: from BOARD AND TABLE GAMES FROM MANY CIVILIZATIONS 2 -
PONG HAU K'I. Also read parts of A HISTORY OF BOARD GAMES OTHER THAN CHESS
and A SHORT HISTORY OF CHESS.
Call from Howie Barasch. For a feedback they were interested
