15 Wednesday - October 1975
288th day - 77 days to come
At Yale Co-op store saw a book GAMES OF THE WORLD - Holt,
Rinehart, Winston. This is another big book. Nothing new to me
(I am pretty sure) but some beautiful graphics. Also saw
THE ILLUSTRATED BOOK OF TABLES GAMES - St. Martin's Press.
This also didn't have anything new to me and the graphics
were not particularly interesting.
Saw the "Political Satire Deck" (which is in the "Great Games
Gallery Catalog" - see 10/14). Looked at rules for
POLITICAL SATIRE GAME. It is played like WAR except that the
player leading (is the lead rotated?) picks the category -
such as name of person, country, capital, area, population.
If some kind of name the initial letter later in the al-
phabet wins. With numbers, largest wins. With names, if
both have same initial letter it is a tie and more cards are
dealt.
Rcd. letter from George Raiselis. Mentioned 90 YEARS OF FUN,
TELL IT TO THE JUDGE. Enclosed SSAE for reply.
Rcd. the game DIET - THE CHEATING MAN'S GAME from Warren Buell.
Rcd. PLAYTHINGS (Oct.). Article that "House of Games has
set up an American subsiduary [sic] in Chicago - with mention of
Alfons Rubbens. "Toy Products" shows BALI, and MERCY (by
Abuse & Corruption Unlimited). Ad for SAM'S HOOLIGAN and other
games by Classic Games. A. H. has ad for ALEXANDER THE GREAT,
WOODEN SHIPS & IRON MEN, and BEAT INFLATION STRATEGY.
(cont. from 10/16) [10/16]
in some type of breakdown of games into different kinds. Since it
was after 5 and I was listening to something I asked him to call
tomorrow morning.
Idea for a GAME for FUN FOR ONE. The tear-out sheet will have
a series of lines (probably dotted) that go between
a number of blank squares (say about 6). The printed
material will give-say-10 squares like that shown
and 8 different sets out of the ten will be indicated. [drawing of a square with a red, green, and blue line through it in different directions] Object
is to play the six squares so that the lines of the same color
are connected. (Rough idea.)
Further thoughts on the GAME like FREE FORM. Each
player has a set of pieces of his own color as follows.
[drawings of 6 different shaped pieces]
The playing field is "w" wide and length varies with number playing
probably one space longer than 5x number
playing. Pieces can be moved if they can
be gripped on two sides, including the
two small pieces which are placed in the second level.
