Called <u>Harry Lorayne</u>. Not in but left message for him to call.
He did, and he had just been talking to <u>Bob Reiss</u>. Reiss
wants the faces tied to names rather than profession. He
also told Harry that it would be much cheaper for them to
make a rectangular board with 15 pockets. This is no problem
for the other games, but makes separate row for faces and names
impossible. I suggested transparent cards with names on them to
be placed in the pocked first and then cardboards with
faces on both sides over them. There was a question of whether the
plastic could be perforated to tear apart. Then I thought of
cardboard with holes so that the faces would show through.
<br>We agreed that Harry would call Reiss and tell him. If there is any
problem or question, he'll tell Reiss to call me.
<br>Harry wanted a game that would emphasize the "Link" and was thinking
of having the players spin and the highest spinner can pick a
row or a diagonal (when it was a 4 x 4) and call off all of the
objects in that row or diagonal. He didn't think it would work, but
I said why not. Diagonals wouldn't work out, but a row of 5
could be worth more than a row of 3. I finally came up with players
in turn choosing a row to identify. As the game professes a row will
be chosen that crosses one already faced. I suggested scoring the square
of the number of objects actually identified, which Harry liked.
Call from <u>Dave Greenwald</u> with more on his effort to place <u>TREFFLES</u>.
<u>John Stephenson</u> will try to place it with Intellect - some of the
people from England are here for the summer. He wants 35% agent
fee.
<br>He is going to see <u>Alice McElhone</u> (I believe again) today.
He asked me about the "Two Game Girls." Told him that I knew them.
Alice had told him that they had sold Parker without an agent. I
told him that they were agent types themself. Told him about
<u>HANNIBAL</u>, <u>THE OLD SHELL GAME</u>, and <u>OPTILE</u>.
Call from <u>Jogn Stephenson</u>. He is preparing a catalog and
would like a mailing list from me. Told him that I had from
100 to 200 names. He'd like them by beginning of Sept. and the
more the better.
<br>He said <u>ACQUIRE</u> would be in the catalog and probably
<u>TOTALLY</u>. He thinks that the latter might do well in the mail order,
but store buyers don't think it is worth $5.95. I asked about
<u>SLEUTH</u> and he doesn't think it will be available from 3M. I
asked about <u>EXECUTIVE DECISION</u> and he said he has been getting
complaints on it - too much writing.
<br>Gave him <u>Don Miller</u>'s address as a possible mailing list source.
Rcd. [received] short letter from <u>Dick Harris</u> saying he had sent the games I
requested under separate cover. He'd like to see my reviews.
He didn't include the list prices.
Rcd. <u>THE GAMESLETTER</u>. Ad by <u>Dean Abel</u> asking for the rules of
<u>RIBBIT</u> and <u>TABLUT</u>. Article on <u>GO</u> (from <u>NOST-ALGIA</u> #93).
