179th day - 186 days to come

Rcd. [received] three copies of IT'S GAME TIME! (#1). Phil Orbanes and I are listed as editors. All the "Gamut of Games" games are "reviewed": BACKGAMMON, CARTEL, INFINITY, BRIDGETTE, THE 6 PACK, MYWORD!, PLACE YOUR BETS, THE DIAMOND HEAD GAMES, LEE VS. MEADE, SARATOGA: 1777, INVASION: SICILY.

Put numbers (see 6/26) on the checkers from the FOCUS set for 2.

With Phil Laurence playing around with the SR51 and discovered the Et key.
Phil and Eliot played a game of SPANS. Then Phil and I played without placing the spanning pcs. [pieces]
Phil and I played the (a) variation of CHECKERS (see 6/26). It played O.K. It seems that having the high numbers where they move first is disadvantageous, since exchanges can be forced where they will be lost. One way out would be have the players set up their own starting arrangement - secretly. Made a rule that when one player lost both of his 6 pcs. he lost, even if he had more pcs. at that time. (I won that way.)
Played variation (c) which is really a CHINESE CHECKERS variation. It was a bore. Possible way out - an even number can jump over only an odd number or a line that adds to an odd. Similar for an odd number. For DAISY magazine.
Played 4-hand FREE FOR ALL, with BB and Annette. Two games. It didn't happen, but it is possible that with a lot of "free movers" pcs. might be able to continually avoid each others. A way out - a player on his turn can announce a "stalemate." If in two rounds - stopping with the player before him - there game is n is no capture, the game is over.
