19 THURSDAY - JUNE 1975
170TH DAY - 195 DAYS TO COME
Wrote to Graeme Levin. Mentioned David Parlett, Tony Mills,
AGOG, A.J. Ainscough, HOLD THAT LINE, CUTTING CORNERS, PAPER BOXING,
LAST WORD, LAP, SKEDOODLE, HA
Put together a packag box of game equipt, including the small
tools, a string of the black beads, two of the strips for holding
photos, some of the "jewels", etc. - for his birthday - Claude's.
Rcd. letter from Mark Singer saying he'd like to go with me to Toy Fair and then write the article.
Letter from John Gollon. Fairly complete rules for KOGUNSHOGI (WAR SHOGI). Mentions of STRATEGO, SHOGI, GO, OTHELLO, THE JUNGLE GAME, CHESS - EAST AND WEST, PAST AND PRESENT, CRIMEAN WAR CHESS, ORIENTAL WAR. Rough rules for CHUSHOGI. Also a cryptic mention of JIKAIDA.
Wrote to A.R. Mills, or rather I finished the letter. Mentioned AGOG and the possible extension or a new book. Mentioned Ray O'Farrell.
Started a letter to David Parlett.
With BB to Claude and Anne's for a smorgasbord supper. Earl there too.
Gave Claude the box box of game equip't. with a card that he should ask for seconds. (He wasn't thrilled!)
Played 5 hand FREE FOR ALL. And then 6 hand with Raymond. It played well and everyone liked it.
Played 6 hand SUCCESS. Claude made some changes since last time. The last 2 sides together are "Easy Street" gives the player landing, or staying, on it $5000 from each player on "Easy St." The "Political Club" gives the president $10,000 for each player on "Easy St." - but from the bank. The V.P. collects $5,000 - also from the bank.
It played o.k. but was rather long. Earl thought it was too repetitious.
Drove Earl home.
Claude showed me the book on WHIST he bought yesterday. It was the regular game. Claude said that if I didn't want it he would like to have it.
During day wrote to Ray O'Farrell (see 4/26) about AGOG and Peter Carr.
Claude gave me the clipping from Monday's TIMES on PETROPOLIS.
