JUNE 1975 - THURSDAY 12
163RD DAY - 202 DAYS TO COME
Rcd. letter from Phil Orbanes with a kid's question on THE GREAT RACES. Stamped envelope enclosed.
Answered the letter. Enclosed an "Illustrations for spy" sheet.
Doing a little work on "20 Minute Games" for R.G.I. HOLIDAY can be played without the bidding and money by letting each player in turn move to a city of his choice, but not back to the city just moved from. To keep track of the day of the week seven cardboard markers can be used, one at a time - each marker having a day on it. A very rudimentary board would suffice. A table with "Best Day" on one edge and "Day Seen" on the other would take care of point values - which can now be in single digits from 7 to 1.
Another possibility is a rummy type. 7 cards must be matched in pairs, threes, fours, or fives. The four cities with only one card each are treated as a group to pair, etc. As well as being matched there must be one card of each day of the week. A scoring system can give points for pairs, threes, etc. A pair of a city with only two cards is worth more than a pair of a city with three, four, five - etc. (Values to be worked out.)
Bob Gellman suggested the name JET SET. Another possibility - QUICK TRIP.
Another GAME uses used the pegs I got on 5/20. A base has
holes in a 12 x 12 array. 22 pegs are provided and 21 [drawing of pegs]
pcs. that are 5 units long. The first player places
a peg. The second places one either 5 away in a row or a column,
or 4 & 3 away. He placed a "bridge" pc. joining them. Players
in turn place pegs and bridge from either end. Last to place
a bridge wins (or loses for misere).
A variation is to have players just place pegs in the base, keeping in mind how they intend to construct a continuous bridge. When a player thinks that it has become impossible he challenges and the opponent must construct the bridge, adding additional pegs if desired.
As a solitaire try to place 22 pegs - which I believe is the most.
Call from Claude. No date today. Probably next Thursday, Called Earl and said that we'd get together either next week or the week after.
DON'T BLOW A FUSE is being sent back by Parker. I told Earl that Jules Cooper was the one to see at Ideal. (I felt free to tell him this because I met Julie completely apart from Felicia - possible even before I met her.)
Call from Dave Greenwald He is in Conn. with a sick parent. The TV program "Blankety Blank" has been cancelled and he is looking for something to do. Talked again about selling TREFFLES and FAMILY DECK to some company. Told him it would be very difficult. Then he talked about putting TREFFLES out himself. I tried my best to talk him out of it.
Dave wanted to visit us tomorrow, but I told him we had a date.
He gave me his number in Connecticut, since [drawn bracket] Dave Greenwald
he'll be there for quite a while [drawn bracket] 203-853-8180
