JUNE 1975 - TUESDAY 10
161ST DAY - 204 DAYS TO COME
To S.P.I. Gave my column to Redmund. Called and finally got Mike Alber for the list prices of PAYDAY ($7.00), THE MAGNIFICENT RACE ($9.00), TENNIS ($3.00), ARKANSAS BLUFF ($3.50).
Gave CONFRONTATION to Howie Barasch to give to Richard Berg. He didn't see Richard yet, but he will ask him about THE GAME OF YOUR FUTURE.
Howie was putting an envelope from the Phillipines on Dave Isby's desk. I looked at it and saw that there was info on a game called AMIGA. Also a covering letter by the inventor. He also invented a previous "award-winning" game SULU. Made two copies of all the material.
Spoke to Jim Dunnigan. Among other things, I asked about a general games magazine. If at all, it will be a long term project. Took duplicate copies of LEGION, YEOMAN, SPARTAN, and VIKING. Was given a message that BB had a message for me. Called and she rcd. a call from Fay Hartog. The mechanicals of BEYOND TIC-TAC-TOE! are there and they need me there today.
BB said that a box had been delivered by messenger from M.B. [Milton Bradley] I assumed that it was FOUR-ARMED BANDIT. (It was.) I called, spoke to Fay, and then Fabio Coen. Agreed to go there today at 3, altho I didn't have my info with me.
To Gamut of Games. Gave Phil Orbanes my revisions on the SLY material. We should get the rest of the money in about a month. He gave me the missing material from the first set of Rand "Command Series Vol. 1" games. The 9 games are now complete except as notes: LEE VS MEADE, SARATOGA: 1777, INVASION: SICILY, NAPOLEON'S LAST CAMPAIGN (one TAC chart missing), [illegible strikeout] CAMRAI, 1917, MISSLE BOAT, OMAHA BEACH, WAR OF THE WORLDS II, ROMMEL: THE WAR FOR NORTH AFRICA (one counter missing).
At B&N looked at A PLAYER'S GUIDE TO TABLE GAMES by John Jackson. (Stackpole Books, Cameron & Kelker Sts., Harrisburg, PA 17105 - also see 1/23/74.) The only game unfamiliar to me was THE GOD GAME (American Publishing) - which was a trivial PARCHISI variation - with "heaven" instead of "home."
He reviewed my ACQUIRE, giving it a little preference over CARTEL. He preferred CLUE to SLEUTH. He didn't like MONAD at all. Venture he gave a fair review to, comparing it to (of all games) BILLIONAIRE. He reviewed PATTON without mentioning me. He said it was better than it appeared at first. Don't think he included EXECUTIVE DECISION.
To Pantheon. In Janet Townsend's office went over the mechanicals of BEYOND TIC-TAC-TOE!. Found some errors that I missed in the galley (as did everyone else), one that Jane must have changed, and a mistake in a diagram that noone caught. Spoke to Janet, Jane Feder, and then to Fabio Coen, after Jane left. Got every- thing straightened out.
Spoke to Fay about the copyright papers for AGOG. She spoke to them
