3 TUESDAY - JUNE 1975
CONFEDERATE MEMORIAL DAY ( KY. LA., TENN.) - 154TH DAY - 211 DAYS TO COME
Two long calls from Felicia. She asked if I had heard from Ron Weingartner. told her that I had called him - and that I wasn't pestering him.
She hears all kinds of rumors about 3M - all bad.
She called Ike Chodak at Edu-Cards. He was just packing up TOGETHERNESS and OVER 'N OVER to return them. They are undoubtedly good games, but not the family fun games they are looking for.
She checked with Warren Paper. They are still considering my FOUR and SUPERGHOSTS and 14 by Alan Newman.
She hears that the Aladdin rep is very unpopular with stores like Brentano's and F.A.O. Schwarz. She told this to Shep Bentley and "Bud Thomas." Shep is worried about the sales of the games.
She asked about the games that Hallmark has. Bob Johnson says
that the options are all finished in August. She said that she'll try
and get some more money, but won't want to show that the games
to others if they are returned. They've had it. On my small list I
have the following of mine listed: RED LETTER, ANOTHER, DIGIT,
PE-LING, TROMINO GO, and PLANES. (Later checked in '73 diary and
found that the renewal of the first five was signed in August
on '73. The PLANES contract was signed 3/10/72.) Of Claude's games,
DUEL was also renewed in August of '73. DEDUCTION was left without
renewal money.
I mentioned that I had seen Alex Randolph and he said that only German games were being considered. She said maybe they are good games because they sell. I said that Germany has dozens of strategy games of the type she wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole. I also mentioned that Alex gets 6% royalties in Germany.
Moses Goldman told her that altho he loves SPACE BOXES it is just too expensive to produce. Apparently Herb Roth is still trying to sell RUMMIKUB. Felicia checked over my rewrite of the rules and shortened them a little.
She has a new client, a husband and wife team who did SHAKESPEARE for A.H. [Avalon Hill] They brought her 3 games and she kept one.
A client (which one?) has written some books on simple games for a publisher who wants more. The client doesn't want to do them. Felicia said that she would want 5% for introducing me to the publisher. I said she deserved more. She mentioned 10% but sort of dropped it.
The editor of a girl scout magazine - for ages about 8 to 12 - is
interested in an article, or possibly a series, of a on games
that the girls can "invent" for themselves. Felicia said that if
I came up with the games she could do the writing. There is a
payment of $50 (is this $50 for each of us?) but she could
get a good plug on me in the mag. Told her I'd start thinking.
Alice McElhone is still functioning as a game rep. One reason she
started the ad agency is to advertise her games.
Rcd. a copy of THE FLYING BUFFALO'S FAVORITE MAGAZINE. Listing of "Things you can buy": NUCLEAR DESTRUCTION (Rules 15¢),
