20 TUESDAY - MAY 1975
140TH DAY - 225 DAYS TO COME [5/27]
Card from Warren Buell, on vacation in Spain.
Letter from S.K. Howard asking for address for BEAT THE MARKET. Enclosed return card.
Letter from Graeme Levin concerning having Nelson send two checks for AGOG royalties.
Letter from John W. Berry (see 4/24). Thanks me for PORT-OF-CALL rules. Mentions BAZAAR, SLEUTH, EXECUTIVE DECISION, BUSINESS STRATEGY, REALM, CARTEL, BRIDGETTE, DUET BRIDGE, FOCUS, ACQUIRE.Also his games DEMON CHESS, FRACAS or ARENA or THIEVES (similar to LUDUS LATRUNCULORUM), REFLECTIONS, STYX, WARPATH (and mention of SMESS, SUN RUNNER, STELLAR EMPIRE.
Called Felicia. Told her that I had made changes in FOUR-ARMED BANDIT in accordance with Ron Weingartener's suggestions. Also that I had a new game, DARN CLEVER that should be perfect for E.S. Lowe. She said that I shouldn't bother them with anything else until they make a decision on FOUR-ARMED BANDIT. "They know that none of my games have sold." But after I remonstrated she said to show it if I want to. I said that I would sound Ron out first, which she liked.
She said that she was very busy with other things. She can't make a living out of games, other that BALI. But later she said something about seeing her lawyer about putting a new client into the game business. She cut me off when she said someone was at the door. (The tone of the conversation was not particularly nasty - but she let me know that she had more important things than handling my games.)
She heard rumors that 3M is not going to have their sales force handle the games, getting reps instead. Herb Roth might be one. She hopes that it materializes.
Call from Ed Schifman. As much as he liked TAKEOVER! he just couldn't get it to cost out. They have problems being competative in paper and cardboard, doing much better in plastic. My original model of the game has been misplaced and he can't seem to locate it. He has the mock up and he asked if that would be o.k. Of course.
I asked if there would be any point in my calling if I had any suggestions for cutting costs. He didn't think I'd be able to, but if so by all means to call. I asked and he'll sent it to me.
He said that TAKE-A-WORD and PROFIT & LOSS had been presented to the committee in the best light, but they decided against them. They were sent to Felicia.
I asked about the other games. TOTALLY, BARRIER, and TRIPPPLES
are doing the best, but it is still early. I mentioned the over order
on INTERSECTION and he confirmed that a lot were ordered. There is
definitely no rush to get the plastic mock-up back to him.
