MAY 1975 - SATURDAY 17
ARMED FORCES DAY - 137TH DAY - 228 DAYS TO COME
Rcd. a report from Reiss, together with a check for $11.90. For CHINESECHEK, etc.
Rcd. a notice and catalog sheet from Eltron Game Co. with BLOCK-OFF (suggested list $6.98) and QUADTRIPLE (suggested list $4.98). (Discarded.)
Mark Singer here for about 2 1/2 hours interviewing me for a possible "Talk of the Town" piece for NEW YORKER magazine. Gave him a copy of AGOG (Castle). Told him that there were some inaccuracies in the WORLD article, and whether I could see his new piece before publication. He said that he had to jazz up the former; I can't see his new piece, but someone at NEW YORKER will call me to check on factual material. That is if it is used - which is up to the editors.
Call from Ralph Anspach (it might have been tomorrow). He asked if I had seen the article on MONOPOLY, ANTI-MONOPOLY in G&P. Yes. At one time during the rather long conversation he asked me if I "had heard anything" but when I said no, he just kept giving me more info/
Others, before [illegible strikeout] Darrow tried to put out MONOPOLY, but without any success/ Also, according to Anspach, Darrow was not making a success with in when Parker decided to put it out. Also Darrow never tried to get a patent until he files for one, the day after assigning it to Parker.
The game INFLATION, that I saw at Parker, was out before MONOPOLY. Parker bought it out for $10,000. (Lizzie J. McGie was given $500 by Parker.)
The game FINANCE was also out prior to MONOPOLY, but Parker put it out to look like a cheaper imitation (FINANCE & FORTUNE?) I brought up that to my knowledge a trademark goes to the first to register it, regardless of who used it first. Not if it is in "Public Domain" - he said.
Called Earl Perel. He'd like the poems back that he sent me. Told him that I'd pick it up from Dale tomorrow. Nothing specifically about games, except that he'd like to get together as a group to play games.
At the Richters played FOUR-ARMED BANDIT, Lotsa Luck with Al, Brian, & Laura, and then without dice with Adela, Al, and BB.
