APRIL 1975 - WEDNESDAY 23
113TH DAY - 252 DAYS TO COME
Call from Felicia. John Lawless coming in today at 11. She said that Alan Neman had left it up to her whether to give his games for a flat fee rather than a royalty. I told her that she should do the same thing with my FOREIGN INTRIGUE. She seemed to be hinting that she'd like me to come down to help her show the games and I said I would come. She seemed pleased.
To Felicia's by 11:30. John Lawless there. Also Alan Newman who Felicia called at the last minute because she couldn't get his SPIN PONG to work. Also Andy? who is working with Felicia on "Sammy Slam-Me" a non-game item. He said he had met me although I couldn't quite place him. Lawless didn't really look at any of the things. They have one slot left for '76 and want something with a mechanical gimmick to fill it. He said that their SPELLBOUND have such a timing gimmick.
I asked about his sending me their games. POWER BROKER, WALL STREET, SPELLBOUND, DOUBLE DEALER, and THE GREAT ESTATE. The first three are just getting into production. The last two are being dropped but I asked for copies for "posterity" and he said sure. I'm to write him in the middle of May.
Later Felicia told me that the reason Hasbro is not giving royalties to inventors was because Jerry Lewis was getting royalties on all of them. She wondered why and I told her about the TV ads.
One of the games that Felicia had out to show was Dennis Lado
Dennis Ladouceur's NICCOLO MACHIAVELLI. Alan and I looked at it quickly.
There is a large circular area divided into spokes - abt. 20 - and the
spokes are divided into spaces by concentric circles. At the outside
of each spoke there is a picture of a character. Around the
outside of the board is (I am pretty sure) a square track.
Players attempt to move men up the spokes with the
object of getting 3 into the center. But it is possible to secretly
get control of the various characters and if another player
reaches the center on a spoke whose character you control, you get
the credit. (Very rough idea.) Felicia said it was fun, but not for 2.
I asked Alan about what he couldn't understand in the rules for PUSHOVER. He had missed the fact that you could only move in certain directions. In connection with TOTALLY, he said it was just a matter of none of his friends liking number games.
Felicia had information on a game called CHIPPER that a patent attorney sent her. She had told him no but he sent it anyway, with return postage. I took it with me to see if there was anything for Felicia to handle.
Felicia said she heard from Aladdin that sales were going well, but INTERSECTION was the weakest.
Brentano's doesn't like Aladdin (because of discounting?) and has even thrown out TRIPPPLES. Felicia will try and get them to take BALI at least.
