Miscellany rcd. lists CONTEMPORARY GAMES: A DIRECTORY AND BIBLIOGRAPHY COVERING GAMES AND PLAY SITUATIONS OR SIMULATIONS USED FOR INSTRUCTION AND TRAINING BY SCHOOLS, COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES, GOVERNMENT, BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT.

Lots of material on CHESS, and DIPLOMACY, and wargaming magazines. Mention of rules for SPEED CHESS in "Northwest Chess." Mention of a card CHESS game called CHECKMATE.

Call from Claude. He rcd. THE RACE TRACK GAME and RACECOURSE. He and Wald have a date with John Lawless tomorrow. Since Hasbro is interested in gimmiks, Claude will bring his I PACK MY TRUNK - which is a children's game where things are carried on the head. (Have a mention in '71. but no description.)

He has met a girl in a book store who is crazy about BAZAAR.

A small marker is placed in the area between moving circles and the object is to maneuver it in rotation passed 1, 2 --- to 6. There are also some unsymetrically placed holes in the holder which the marker must avoid.

AGOG came up and he said that he always turns it towards the back when he sees it in a bookshelf. I told him that the parts he objected to have been changed in the Castle & Nelson editions. He told me that Parker is not doing the strategy line built around MASTER MIND. Invicta is pushing MASTER MIND in U.S. themselves. Parker of Germany, however, is doing a game (later learned that the name was BASIS 10) that is by the same inventor - or from the same agent - as MASTER MIND. the inventor is an Israeli.

Alex called Martin had called Martin Gardner and was going there by train. At my suggestion he called Martin and arranged instead for me to drive there. Took subway here for lunch.

At my house I showed INTERSECTION, TOTALLY, and PUSHOVER. We played the latter and he liked it. He told me that the German ink manufacturer, "Pelican" came out with a card game HEISSE KARTEN where black cards score + and red
