MARCH 1975 - FRIDAY 28
GOOD FRIDAY - 87TH DAY - 278 DAYS TO COME
To Phil Orbanes. He read over my rules for SLY 6 and made a few very slight corrections. Had repros made of the 9 diagrams I did last evening and also about a dozen sheets from the master. Till about 4 working on coloring both copies of the 9 finished diagrams. Also did the missing 3 diagrams in duplicate.
While working on this listened to David Isby and some others talking about a feedback program set up by Rand, and the type of games that respondents requested. Among other things, it came out that a game based on a particular battle or period came out higher on the list if it was tied to a particular personality. (They talked for an hour or so.)
Phil took me out to lunch and we discussed "Gamut of Games," I-Q, and me. Until Phil finds out how things go in connection with Djoli Kansil, he cannot plan too far into the future. Djoli is still president and (I believe) majority stock holder. Phil, with Von Zedtwitz' approval, is trying to get him to step aside in return for a cash payment and a guaranteed royalty. Right now I-Q is completely dormant. For one thing Phil doesn't want to give Djoli and possible opening to accuse Phil of conflict of interest. Phil doesn't need the 10% payment from me for the Reiss royalty - VEGAS 13, etc. To compensate for this he asked me to write three rave reviews (in the third person) of about 500 words each for REALM, INFINITY, and THE SIX PACK OF PAPER & PENCIL GAMES. Phil & Graeme Levin have worked out a deal: Phil will push G&P with buyers of "Gamut" games with magazines sent to U.S. subscribers. (How about Canadian?) I will have the reviews for him by middle of May.
To S.P.I. Spoke to Jim Dunnigan. Among other things, he asked me about "Gamut of Games" and "Rand." I told him in general terms. He mentioned that Phil Orbanes was one of the few people he disliked. I said that I loved both of them and wouldn't get involved.
Took copies of the following games: YEOMAN, LEGION, SPARTAN, GLOBAL WAR.
During day Ed Schifman called and gave BB four more names for me to look up: NETWORK, CONNECTION, PLEXUS, CROSSBAR, and CROSSPOINT.
