MARCH 1975 - WEDNESDAY 26
WEDNESDAY IN HOLY WEEK - 85TH DAY - 280 DAYS TO COME
Wrote the introduction, SOLITAIRE SLY, GET THE JUMP, and started LINE UP - for SLY 6.
Call from Earl Perel. He had written to PLAYBOY magazine suggesting
that they should have a game column - with me writing it.
They answered that they didn't accept any ideas for features
from outside. He offered to write to ESQUIRE but I said no thanks,
but no.
He got together with Al Richter over DON'T BLOW A FUSE. He sent it to Parker after sounding them out by letter. They've had it about a month so far.
Visit from Pelham Burns (no house gift). Henry and I played SLY 6, including (I believe) [illegible strikeout] SNIGGLE, EMPIRE, and BLOCKADE. He played well and liked them. I copied down a position in the last in which there is a double threat. Discussed our visiting them again soon but didn't set a date.

enemy pcs. and have scoring value (which wasn't spelled out).
Alex showed a puzzle of his which will be published in Denmark - KARAZOU. There are [drawing of puzzle] 8 tiles with "X" on one side and "+" on the other. These are set up on a 3x3 grid - illustration shows one of the many possible setups of X and + distribution. Pcs. move into the empty space in the direction of a line. Object is to switch position of blue and red pcs. Some set ups can't be done. This made Martin think of some sliding block puzzles and games he will be using in upcoming columns. There are in a letter I have in M.G. [Martin Gardner] folder, rcd. 9/7/72. Martin also mentioned DODGEM which he said was covering on page 30 of G&P May '73. I also have info in M.G. folder, rcd. 9/30/72. Martin mentioned REX (Reverse HEX) where the object is to avoid linking your sides.
I noticed a home made board with an arrangement of [triangles], [squares], and [hexagons]. I asked Martin about it. He doesn't know what it is for but keeps it for the checkerboard on the other side. (At home I checked and found that it was DELREC CHESS - see 1964 diary.)
Alex suggested that Martin do a listing of a new strategic games in a pre-Christmas column. Martin said he'd check with his SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN editors.
I mentioned that I was in the process of getting back all rights to AGOG. Martin said he'd check with some editors about doing it in paperback.
Alex said that he'd have Ravensburger send the following
