MARCH 1975 - TUESDAY 18
77TH DAY - 288 DAYS TO COME
Rcd. PLAYTHINGS (March '75). Ad for ANTI-MONOPOLY. Nothing new.
BB typed and I sent the letter to Ed Schifman, with the releases for TAKE-A-WORD and PROFIT & LOSS.
Called Claude and discussed a date for this Friday.
Wrote the rules for ORGANISMS.
At bazaar BB bought 8x5 and 6x4 lined colored index cards - about 500 - $.70.
(cont. from 3/22) [3/21]
we played the DOMINOES version. Each player is dealt 7 cards and one is placed as a starter. A match consists of the end of the played card matching the number on either end of the line on the t able - it is played to actually cover. A bonus match is the end and middle of the played card matching the middle and end of the card table ([drawings of dominoes] are a match). The player making such a match can, if able, play again, etc. At the end of a turn a player takes a card, until deck is exhausted, or if the player plays out all his cards. A player unable to make one match draws from the pack until able, or until deck is exhausted.
We played the "Bidding" version. Each player is dealt 7 cards and then bid the number of tricks they will contract to take. The higher bidder leads. If 3 or 2 is trump, the high card takes a trick: 2 3 3 is the highest trump when 2 is trump and 2 0 0 is the lowest; 3 2 3 is not a trump, the end card being the determining factor. If a card is played from the other side, it loses its trump status: with 2 as trump, 1 3 2 would not be a trump, but in the 1 suit. If 1 or 0 is trump, the low card takes the trick: 1 0 0 is the best trump when 1 is trump and 1 3 3 is the worst. Players must follow suit is possible - considering both ends of each card, but do not have to play higher. A player making his contract scores his bid squared with no score for overtricks. Penalty for set is 10 for first and 5 for each other. There is a provision for doubling but they were vague on this.
We played the RUMMY version in various pairs of 2. A meld consists of 3 or 4 cards with two numbers in the same position: [column 2 1 2] [column 2 1 3] [column 2 1 0], or [column 1 0 1] [column 1 3 1] [column 1 2 1] [column 1 1 1]. A special meld is 3 or 4 of the following cards [column 1 1 1] [column 2 2 2] [column 3 3 3] [column 4 4 4]. Play and scoring is just about identical with GIN RUMMY. Another deck that Dave had just finished consisted of four members of a family: Father, Mother, Daughter; Son: in all possible combinations: [drawing of combinations] These 15 cards are repeated in 4 different colors - making a total of 60 cards. (I'll call this the FAMILY DECK.) As a RUMMY game, the object would be to match the
