MARCH 1975 - SUNDAY 16
FIFTH SUNDAY IN LENT - 75TH DAY - 290 DAYS TO COME

BB typed rules for TAKE-A-WORD and PROFIT & LOSS. I added the diagrams.

At a bazaar at the Abalon bought 10 dozen colored pencils at 25¢ a dozen. Among others were 5 dozen orange and 1 dozen purple. Bought a book by Larry Evans - NEW IDEAS IN CHESS - for 25¢. Bought STUMP for 50¢; at home discovered that I had rcd. a copy in 1970.

Worked out the LINE UP version of SLY 6.

Pretty well worked out three more

(who seemed to remember me). We played FOUR-ARMED BANDIT twice, first with dice, then without. They liked the latter better, but Ron said that he was thinking something more visual - where you could see the "hands" forming. Also he thought it would be good to allow a player to directly change another's "hand."

They took the model with them and said they'd play a round with it. I said that I thought that I could make changes in the direction they want. Ron said he'd probably be in N.Y. next week and would get in touch with me.

To Bob Gellman's office and he told me that he had just called me to call off our date tomorrow.

He gave me a clipping from MONEYSWORTH (5/12/75) which mentions MONOPOLY, BACKGAMMON, CLUE, KING OIL, PRIZE PROPERTY, ANTI-MONOPOLY, THE BLACK EXPERIENCE, JUTLAND, GETTYSBURG, PARCHISI.

He showed me a folder of letters from game inventors and picked out one especially to show me - STIK STAK STUK. It is a simple NIM game with self-contained material (I am pretty sure). He gives some reference material, including a repro of my material on NIM from AGOG.

Bob said that he would work only with me and with Howard Wexler on the line of "20 Minute Games." I reminded him that the original "Coffee Break" idea was Claude's and he said that that was between Claude & Howard.

I told him about TAKE-A-WORD and he said that if he uses a word game, that will be it. I suggested a game using the travel cards from HOLIDAY and he suggested the name JET SET. It will be possible to add printed material to the cards if I need any.

He showed me material that they had on hand or he'd like to use in the games if possible. He'll also show it to Howard. From Urban Systems they got the following: double ended pegs in white, blue, and red - different numbers of each and I'll check my copy of SMOG to see the relationship (Bob estimated 60% white, 25% blue, 15% red) - maximum for game should be 50; smoke plumes from SMOG; plastic rings; cubes with colors on the faces (about)
