MARCH 1975 - THURSDAY 6
65TH DAY - 300 DAYS TO COME

Rcd. 6 copies of the INTERSECTION "Special Documents," with a note from Ed Schifman. They are still the original.

More work on the manuscript at home.

To Random House. Went over the manuscript with Jane Feder. We agreed on everything. The only debate we had was over the use of brackets for illustrative material. When I suggested using a different type of bracket she went for that.

Spoke to Fabio Coen. The sales force, who are already on record as not liking THE ART OF GAMES, thought that something to a familiar game - like TIC TAC TOE - would be good. We discussed things like "A sophisticated Tic Tac Toe" but didn't come to any conclusions. We'll both think about it.

Gave Fay signed copies copy of the letter altering the contract. I asked, and she gave me my copy of the contract.

To Brentano's. Looked at THE BIG BOARD (see 12/16/74). the amount of money the players receive at the beginning is $25,000 (I am almost positive) which is rather tight.

Looked at the shrink-wrapped copies of the Springbok Jig saw puzzle games (see 11/12/74). [illegible strikeout] YOUR SECRET SELF seems to consist of solidly colored pcs. that can be put together in any number of different ways. An interpretation book explains your personality from the way the colors are used. THE MYSTERY OF THE MUSICAL REQUIEM seems to consist of a mystery story, the completed puzzle giving the clue to solve it. THE AMAZNG MAZE gives a maze to solve and THE WORLD'S MOST REMARKABLE CROSSWORD PUZZLE can also be solved as a crossword puzzle. None seem to be "games" in my context.

To Gamut of Games. Malcolm Watson was there talking to Phil Orbanes. We shook hands and he reminded me that we had once met briefly at S.P.I.

While they were talking I made repros of the following from G&P #34: ROSETTE, a variation of GO played on a hexagonal board; Gamesviews of EQUATIONS, CARPET GOLF, SPEED CIRCUIT, CRISS CROSS, STRATEGY, THE PROTACTED GAME ([illegible strikeout] A book comparing Mao Tse-Tung's campaign to a GO game), and FIRST THEORIES OF HEXAGONAL CHESS (by W. Glinski); Forum has a letter on MAX AND JACKS, a game played with POKER DICE and popular in Central Africa - and a letter on SUNGCA, a Philippines MANCALA variation; rules for a p&p games FORTS and for ESPIONAGE.

After Watson left I spoke to Phil. Watson will handle Gamut's 3 military games together with his A.H. [Avalon Hill] and S.P.I. agency. The contact was made thru Don Turnbull.

Marty Kornblum has been bounced by Phil. He talked good projects, but never carried thru.

Now that Marty is out, Manny Lefkowitz is much more friendly. Reiss will be putting out Andy Luftig's SUSPENSE as a bookshelf game. (Luftig is a friend of Marty Kronblum's.) Gamut of Games will be getting 50% of the royalties. If the game is not satisfactory, he may have me work on it, giving
