9 SUNDAY - FEBRUARY 1975
SHROVE SUNDAY - 40TH DAY - 325 DAYS TO COME
Made 4 new boards for JACK POTS 6 with [drawing of triangle pointing right with two dots] instead of [drawing of square with two dots], because
of Felicia's problem with defining an intersection.
BB painted pcs., that Dana cut, to replace the missing ones in SPACE BOXES.
Graeme Levin here for supper. He brought me rules for CROWN CHESS. He sent a check for LOGICA but it was sent back, with a letter that it would be available at a later time.
He showed me an article in an upcoming G&P on MONOPOLY. AGOG is quoted. Also a lot is by Willard Allphin. He showed me an 1923 patent on THE LANDLORD'S GAME - #1,509,312. (Later checked and I have it. It has a provision for "improvements" and mentions "monopolies.")
I asked about AGOG and he said he hasn't been seeing it in the stores. He'll check with Nelson. Forgot to tell him about paragraph that should be removed.
Graeme interested in publishers who did things on games. Looking at my book shelves and came up with "McKay," "Nelson" (THE DOMINO BOOK) (Graeme thinks this is tied to English Nelson), "Dover," others.
While looking at THE STUDY OF GAMES by Avedon and Smith, he mentioned that Avedon runs some kind of "Game Museum" in Canada. No details.
He saw INFINITY on my shelf and mentioned that David Parlett liked it and the panel didn't. It came out that Parlett had tried my revised version, while the panel did the original.
I mentioned that I liked SPECTRA and he said that it had been withdrawn because there is a sure win. The G&P people have a way out, which the company may use. (Later he said that it was a question of allowing movement of pcs. before all have been entered.)
EPAMINONDAS has been licensed to Philmar in '75. I asked, and he said that expected sales would run from 5,000 to 20,000.
He is going to see Phil Orbanes about "Gamut of Games" licensing some of the games they have placed in England. Also he had a package of magazines shipped there.
AllaAladdin has 3 subscriptions to G&P. Also their U,K. office has
sent review copies of TRIPPPLES and said they had 4 upcoming games.
Told Graeme that 3 were mine. In connection with TOTALLY, he said
that the German game TRIO by Heinz Wittenberg, is a number game.
He said that he never rcd. review copies of PATTON and MACARTHUR. He'll see Bob Gellman.
He asked if I knew Tom Atwater and I told him. I asked why he asked and he said that Atwater had been a subscriber (???)
Eric Solomon came up and I asked what else he had done. Intellect is coming out with his THOUGHTWAVE.
I asked to have my G&P sent airmail and he made a note.
David Parlett received a lot of letters saying ZETEMA was in AGOG. In connection with his acting as an agent for me I said that the 50-50 split was high. He said that they are often able to get more than 5%, and that they often improve the game in their panel. However since he is sure my games are complete the split can be different. Also they really need the agenting fees to help subsidize the magazine.
