18 SATURDAY - JANUARY 1975
18TH DAY - 347 DAYS TO COME

Rcd. a letter from David Pritchard, editor of G&P, asking me to do a column on the American scene.

(cont. from 1/19) [1/21]

Call from John Stephenson of "Games Gallery." He asked me about MASTERMIND by Cadaco and I told him what I know. He has tried to get Parker's but they are only test marketing in certain areas.

H. Mole (see 1/6) was in to buy some Intellect games and mentioned me. He asked if I had heard from a Mr. Kelly (spelling?) about a game called SIEGE. Kelly had shown him this game - a CHESS variation - and asked John for an evaluation. John told him that I could do it for him, for a fee, and gave Kelly my address. He is telephone number. He asked if that was o.k. Yes, as long as the people are not obviously "nuts."

Barbara Horn gave me some old pads of Dave's for scrap paper. Put them in a box in basement.

Thought of an idea to fix the problem in HONORABLE RELATIONS. The first player plays either a 1 or a 2. The second player then can move either of the next two pcs., etc. - around the corner. When a player can't use either of the 2 numbers - because they are blocked or off the field - he loses his turn. Possibly this idea can be used for placing pcs. too. [Started 1/21]

THE ART OF GAMES, PENNYROYAL, G&P.

Letter to David Gwyn Watts. Mentioned RAILWAY RIVALS, THE PENINSULAR WAR, S&T.

Played PROFIT with the Laurence's. Played in about an hour and wasn't bad. Used the set that 3M sent back and lated [later?] discovered that they had upped the numbers of the shares, which made for too many shares in a play. Decided that the stock bonuses added to the complications without adding to the play. Decided to allow a player to play up to 4 cards at a time, the only limitation being that only two can be

stock purchases. Instead of playing a player can still draw

and discard 3 cards, back into the deck. To keep the "Unstable" cards from accumulating, decided to return a company to "Stable" when the "Market Price" is changed by either 10 or 20.
