16 MONDAY - DECEMBER 1974
350TH DAY - 15 DAYS TO COME
To Fabio Coen. They will definitely do THE ART OF GAMES.
Since it is paperback, the royalty is only 5%. He will
try to get me a sliding scale, such as 6% after
50,000 copies. The advance will be the amount of my
over-payment on AGOG. I asked about the clause on submitting my next
book to them. They'd like to have it, but it only applies to ideas I come
up with myself. If someone approaches me with an idea there is nothing to
stop me from accepting the assignment. The contract will be sent to
me soon.
He wants the book to come out this fall, so I have to have it ready
by the middle of February. He wants me to eliminate MIRO since it
is just a redo of two other games, and it is hard to follow - even with
the illustrations. I said I'd come up with a new MIRO game.
He also would like to have 8 games rather than 6. I said that
I am sure I can come up with them, but there might be a
problem finding enough room to write the rules. He'll leave it to me.
He gave me back the booklet I prepared - with his comments written in. There
was also a note from Pat Ross saying "Fabio - Very clever! Pat"
To Jean Boone's and gave her a copy of AGOG. (She asked if I wanted it back. Rather than have it discarded she'll return it.) Told her that I just came to an agreement on a new book. She said that that might be a good handle for "To Tell the Truth." If I can talk about it in the spring they can tape it then for running in the fall. I suggested that I was going to have 3 new games at Toy Fair. She said that for some reason it is o.k. to plug a book, but not games.
To Brentano's. Looked at THE BIG BOARD again (see 12/5). There is a
board as shown. [drawing of board] There
are 8 stock markers which
are started in the "Bust"
row. There are 6 tokens
for up to 6 players. There
are 8 "Real Value" cards
with the following values:
Bust; 10,000; 25,000; 50,000,
100,000; 150,000; 200,000;
250,000. There are 8
"Shares" for each of the 8
stocks. These are placed on
the spaces at the ends of
the board. There is play
money (don't remember how
much players start with).
The "Real Value" cards are
shuffled and placed face down.
on the tops of the 8 columns. Each player places his token in one of the
company spaces (with a square) and that company's stock moves up from
"Bust" to "Offer."
Players in their turn throw the 2 dice and move in the direction of
