2 MONDAY - DECEMBER 1974
MONROE DOCTRINE DECLARED 1823 - 336TH DAY - 29 DAYS TO COME

Rcd. a letter from L. Vittet addressed to Monsieur Berloquin, c/o Sackson. (Opened it before I realized this.) Vittet discusses LES DEUX SAMOURAIS, HIGH RISE, and his puzzles - and what to tell me about them. (It was dated 10/18 but was held up because of the French postal strike.)

Called Earl and arranged to meet at his room on Thurs. at 5 to 5:30. He had rcd. a call from Claude. And Claude called me later.

Called, and finally reached, Bob Champer. Discussed WASHINGTON. I will do "Yorktown" as the large game and he'll do the other two. Told him that he'd probably get about $500 as his share of this year's royalties for PATTON and MACARTHUR. He seemed happy about this. Asked him to keep in touch by calling me Saturday. He promised that he would.

Went over the reproductions of A.H.'s [Avalon Hill] 1776. Put the board sheets together. Started to write in the material that was unclear but realized that it would be much too much work. Did fix up some of the other sheets.

"Real Value" for each stock. Players in their turn first turn choose one of the stocks and place their marker on the space with the symbol. The marker on the stock track is moved from "Bust" to 5. Each time a colored space is landed on that stock moves up 1 space, unless the "trend" is "bearish," in which case it moves down 2 spaces if land on symbol space. Some spaces call for a change to "bearish," others (and more of these I believe) to "bullish." Some allow a choice. Players buy and sell shares (don't remember details of how) at the marked price, Some spaces allow a player to look at a "real value" card. When a stock reaches its "Real Value" it is turned face up (who does it?) and then that is the value of the stock. If the "Real Value" is 25 or more it collects dividends each time it is landed on: 10% (I believe). When the 5 stocks (150, 200, & 250 can't be reached) reach their "Real Value" - including the three top ones. Most money will wins. (Rough idea.)

At 42nd St. Library found out that "West Point Atlas of American Wars" was in the Map Room - Room 117. It its open from 9 to 6 except Sunday. (For use in WASHINGTON.)

At B. Altman's saw ENERGY CRISIS GAME. Each player has a differently colored card with spaces for placing various kinds of "Energy Coupons." There is one coupon of each type & color. Players get coupons in various ways, and trade, sell, auction, etc. First to fill his card wins. (Very rough idea.) No ACQUIRE.
