DECEMBER 1974 - SUNDAY 1
FIRST SUNDAY IN ADVENT - 335TH DAY - 30 DAYS TO COME
At bazaars in Westchester bought SPELLBOUND (roylon) and
for $2.50 and THE PROMISED LAND GAME for $1.25.
Called Bob Champer's number and his mother said he was expected tonight. Asked her to have him call me, but he didn't.
Wrote to Steve Miller. Mentioned ORION CHESS, ORION, S&T, G&P, SWITCH, REVERSI, BUGS AND LOOOPS.
Call from Claude. Made a date for Thurs. evening. One of us will contact Earl and see if it can be in his room - if not either Claude's house or S.P.I.
Wald called Claude when he was out. Maybe Wald will join us.
(cont. from 12/2) [12/5]
To Felicia. Took the game JURISPRUDENCE. Also took back my HEX-MATCH - she said "It had had it." She also wanted me to take SKYSCRAPERS (2 versions), but I didn't have the room in my bag.
I asked her if the problem with RACE SLALOM 1 DOWNHILL 2 had been
solved. Yes. (Didn't get details.)
I asked her if she had seen George Bredehorn's FINDER'S KEEPERS. Apparently yes, but she was non-committal.
Showed her JACK POTS 6 and we played a little. She asked how long it took and I said about an hour. She said much too long. I said I could end it when the first six cards are taken. She agreed to that, and to having the longer game as an alternative. She liked the play, and the name.
To Reiss to talk to him about THE MEMORY GAME. Out of town until the middle of next week.
To "Gamut of Games," Phil Orbanes there and then Marty Kornblum came in. They have a good deal with the producers of the TV game show DEALER'S CHOICE. They outbid M.B. [Milton Bradley] for the right to do a home game - which they call PLACE YOUR BETS.
They TV program is on 3 times a week and they have an 8 second spot each program, in return for which they give the producers a percentage on all copies of the games advertised sold during the month. The first month they are featuring CARTEL, MYWORD!, and one of the war games.
The producers are doing another game show for TV which will be going in a month or so - THE DIAMOND HEAD GAME (set in Hawaii). Marty is working with them on [illegible strikeout] RIPLEY'S BELIEVE IT OR NOT as both a TV and a home game. (Didn't get details.)
Phil suggested they two of us doing a book together covering all aspects of games. Marty wanted this as a publicity vehicle for "Gamut of Games." I said I couldn't go along with this since I have to make my living with other companies. Phil agreed. His idea is to get publicity for the two of us.
