NOVEMBER 1974 - THURSDAY 21
PRESENTATION OF B.V. MARY - 325TH DAY - 40 DAYS TO COME
Rcd. letter from Graeme Levin with check for £105 - 20 for my share of AGOG asvance.
He asks about inexpensive lodgings at Toy Fair time. Also for either a TOYS or PLAYTHINGS directory.
(Tried to deposit check in Knickerbocker and Chemical, but they won't credit it until it is collected in England. I'll hold it for Dollar which credited the last check at once.)
Believe that I send four classified telephone books to Graeme today. $2.01.
Call from Felicia. A naval officer brought her a war game called CONDITION I that she really liked, but it would be [illegible strikeout] very expensive to produce. There are three kinds of "ships" and they are sailed in formations simulating actual formations used. When a ship is sunk some kind of a peg actually falls to the bottom (?). She had him take it back to improve the rules.
He had never heard of S&T, but [drawn bracket] Lonnie B. Brummit was interested when she men- [drawn bracket] 126 Lyttle Drive tioned it. She told him I would [drawn bracket] Newport News, Va. 23606 send him a copy.
Owens-Illinois is getting out of the toy-craft-game business. They will provide "Biblical Herb Kits" to the stores that listed them in catalogs, but will not produce any others. They will not do the "Shakespeare Herb Kit," but - of course - will not take back the advance.
She hears from both Brentano's and Bloomingdales that games are doing well.
The TIMES sometime this week had an Abercrombie & Fitch ad for games and puzzles - all featured as being under $10. Among others were - SCRAMBLED EGG, TURNABOUT, GO, WHICH SWITCH, THE BRAIN, LIE, CHEAT & STEAL, TORUS.
Alan Newman brought her his revised version of ASSEMBLY LINE, which he now calls AUTO MAGNATE. He also left the copy of JURISPRUDENCE for me.
Brentano's gave BALI a beautiful location in their catalog - but S&R doesn't have copies of the game. The "Yankee Peddlar" catalog also has the same problem. Felicia now feels what I have felt for some time - that S&R had no intention of trying to move BALI.
She had a nice visit with Herb Baus but told him that none
of his games were original enough for her to handle. He
decided that games were not fro for him.
Some years ago he tried to sell a STOCK BROKER to Parker, without success.
Call from Jerry D'Arcey, just to see how I was doing. I asked him about the rules for EASY COME - EASY GO he promised to send me. He is still working on them, with the object of shortening them. After about two hours the game begins to drag. He has gotten some financing and he is going to publish TOP DOG/ He will probably be coming to N.Y. for Toy Fair. Offered to have him stay here. Probably a package deal with hotels included
