NOVEMBER 1974 - WEDNESDAY 13
317TH DAY - 48 DAYS TO COME
Call from John Gambling and taped an interview. He asked if YAHTZEE really outsold MONOPOLY. Told him I didn't know. He asked if games tended to be topical. Yes, and gave him examples. He asked how a got game ideas and I told him how BAZAAR came from helping my son with trigonometry. He asked my favorite games and I said BRIDGE, GO, FOCUS, and ACQUIRE and said a little about it. He stopped me before I could go to other games.
Rcd. an envelope from Herbert Siegel with a short note and a copy of article he wrote for THE TOY CHEST (Sept. 74), the magazine of the "Antique Toy Collectors of America." Among others, he mentions or shows pictures of: ROUND THE WORLD WITH NELLY BLY, THE WILD WEST GAME, GAME OF MAIL, EXPRESS, OR ACCOMMODATION, DR. BUSBY, OUR NAVY, CINDERELLA, CUCKOO, WHO?, WALL STREET GAME OF BULLS AND BEARS, THE GAME OF THE AMERICAN EAGLE.
Went over the WASHINGTON blurb and made some changes. After BB made some comments I called Bob Gellman and gave him the changes. He agreed to them.
He had just sent a letter covering the "House of Games" handling of PATTON and MACARTHUR in Canada - 2 1/2% to me.
Mary Walmsley & Beverly Cooke here in the evening. They brought me a copy of their game HANNIBAL which is a "Parker Quick Match Game." At present it is being test marketed in various areas around the country. On the back of the box are pictures of two other games in the series: MASTERMIND - looks like it is simplified; TRESPASS - which we are pretty sure is by Howard Wexler.
They have been doing games for about 2 1/2 years and so far have placed OPTILE with Schaper, THE OLD SNELL GAME with S&R, and HANNIBAL with P. They have tried to do action games but without success. They do strategy games best, even tho they find them hard to sell. (I told them their success rate is phenomenal.) They tried to get leads from me but I told them that I have an agent and this is her stock in trade. I signed their copy of AGOG and they signed HANNIBAL. Called Claude and first Anne and then Claude called back. Date Friday, but he'll call tomorrow to set time & place.
Thought of the name JACK POTS 8 as a tentative name for my gambling version of TAM-BIT.
