10 SUNDAY - NOVEMBER 1974
TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST - 314TH DAY - 51 DAYS TO COME
To a bazaar in Pelham Manor: Nothing.
Working on the gambling GAME based on TAM-BIT. Used that board and made a rough set of "configuration" cards. Played by myself, but didn't play with money - or chips - so couldn't get the flavor of how jackpots build-up. Otherwise it seems promising.
Called Earl Perel. He has been doing a little work on writing and none on games. He feels that Claude acted unethically in the HASBRO matter (so did Wald but he expected it of Wald). However, he is not mad at Claude.
I told him of the problem I have with Claude over Claude's RAZZLE DAZZLE and my reaction to it.
Earl asked me about Al Richter and DON'T BLOW A FUSE. Told him that it was finished and suggested that he call Al. Since we are both busy, didn't make a date.
Dale told me that I was mentioned in a TIMES article. This was by John Albright (see 9/23).
BB picked up a copy at her mother's. It mentions YAHTZEE, MONOPOLY, my game collection, CHECKERED GAME OF LIFE, THE LANDLORDS GAME, BACKGAMMON, SCRABBLE, John Stephenson (misspelled) and his "Games Gallery," INSTANT INSANITY, GO, TWIXT, FACTS IN FIVE, IMAGE, ACQUIRE (invented by Games historian Sid Sackson is similar to Monopoly but requires less time to play), ANTI-MONOPOLY and Ralph Anspach. (Later got a 2nd copy from Dale. Both filed in 1974 Misc.)
(cont. from 11/12) [11/12]
To Dollar to deposit 3M check.
Notice in mailbox that a package was at P.O. Picked it up and it was a 2nd copy of CONFRONTATION.
Called Phil Orbanes and asked whether he had sent me copies of THE 6 PACK OF PAPER & PENCIL GAMES, etc. He'll get to it in a week or two.
Asked about THE FREAKY KING OF THE HILL. The cereal company liked it enough to keep it awhile, but it is still a long shot.
Letter from Graeme Levin. He'd like info on MONOPOLY, ANTI-MONOPOLY, Ralph Anspach, etc. He also asks if I know Willard Allphin.
Richard Moon has written to him and they are considering
commissioning him to do an article on for G&P. He asks if I know
him.
David Pritchard, the editor, is keen on a regular column on the American scene, and Graeme would like me ideas on the subject. He has sent me KINGMAKER and STRATEGY.
