10/27 10/26 10/25 OCTOBER 1974 - MONDAY 28 VETERANS DAY - 301ST DAY - 64 DAYS TO COME
To "Gamut of Games." Phil Orbanes not there but the
secretary made repros of MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS,
THE CASE OF THE ELUSIVE ASSASSIN, and FUH
FU MANCHU'S HIDDEN HOARD to give to Phil.
She also made repros of DOMINO SOLITAIRE for me. She said there was a letter for me that she just sent out.
To Felicia and gave her the 3 copies of FOCUS to send to Bob Johnson. Took the rules from 1, since I told Bob to reproduce the rules in my book. (Added rules to copy I kept.)
She had rcd. a call from someone in the foreign department at Aladdin who wanted to talk to me. This was last Friday and he took my number. She also told him (I believe) that I would be in today.
He called and said that he had come up with a different version of INTERSECTION in which players place the colored discs at the start of the game, some face up and some face down. I said that I liked it, but as a variant for advanced players. That was what he had in mind. In fact they have a printed sheet with these extra rules.
He is also a game inventor and Aladdin is coming out with one called BARRIER which, he says, is a new version of a standard board game.
My book AGOG came up and I [drawn bracket] Ed Schifman promised to send him a copy. [drawn bracket] Aladdin Industries He mentioned the problem with [drawn bracket] 703 Murfreesboro Rd. THE BRAIN GAME - a company in [drawn bracket] Nashville, Tenn. 37210 California has something with a [drawn bracket] (0-615-748-3216) similar name. They have 4 suggestions for new names: VENTURE (told him of mine with 3M); TAKEOVER! (later discovered an English game with this name); CARTEL (told him of "Gamut of Games"); ENTERPRISE (told him that a small company had used it but it might still be available. At home found one in "Board Games" folder and a different one in Parker Archives material - see 8/6/68). I told him that I'd try to think of a name. He needs the name by the end of this week, and I should call him collect. She said that "Bud" Thomas was at 200 Fifth Ave. with samples of TOTALLY and INTERSECTION and that I should go there to look at them.
Felicia said that the Toy Knights show was in progress and that it is normally not a good idea to go there on first day. But since Schifman said to go, it is o.k. This showroom is "Delfausse" - Room 450.
To 200 Fifth and spoke to "Bud" Thomas. he had copies of TOTALLY and INTERSECTION and they looked good. Took a copy of the ad sheet and also the sheet with the TOTALLY variation. There is a mention of "random placing" that is not clear. "Bud" said that it is now a question of how TRIPPPLES moves from shelves. Picked up two copies of TOY & HOBBY WORLD (Oct. '74). Nothing.
