27 SUNDAY - OCTOBER 1974 TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST - 300TH DAY - 65 DAYS TO COME

While looking at the two FOCUS boxes I took from the basement I noticed that one was moldy. Checked in the basement and discovered the the three large boxes on the north wall at the bottom of the piles were damaged by dampness. Put the empty boxes in these three. Found that a number of the TRANSFORMATION duplicates were quite moldy.

Went over the other piles and found, among other things, that the copies of AGOG against the floor were slightly moldy. Went Changed everything so that either empty boxes were at the bottom or things, like plastic, that wouldn't be damaged or things that didn't matter too much.

From the box of material sent to me by 3M (see 4/3/72) I took the following games upstairs:- SPACE CHASE; PENETRATION; PEG-A-LINE; GAME OF TRUMPS; SPLURGE - (The rules were missing and I took them from the envelope of rules I have on shelf 52).

of interest.

To 3M offices and spoke to Audrey Pierce. Discussed the subject of game reviewing, including Roger Verhulst and Richard Moon. She took down info on me and will try to get me on TV and radio.

She gave me a copy of EVENTS and CONTIGO. Also an ad sheet with these, HECTIX, FRANTIX and the p&p games.

She said that Phyllis Melhada had another appointment this

afternoon, and would meet me another time.

Next year KING'S COURT will be a bo[o]kshelf. It is a 3D CHESS, she believes.

To kill some time went into McGraw-Hill book store. Saw MATHEMATICAL GAMES AND PUZZLES by Trevor Rice. (St. Martin's Press, N.Y. '73). Standard math. recreations (such as SOMA, HEX, PENTOMINOS, etc.) attractively done.

Saw FANTASY ENCOUNTER GAMES by Dr. Herbert A. Otto. (Nash Publishing, Los Angeles '72), Ground rules for role playing by two or more.

Met Pierre and Annie at Waldorf-Astoria. They took me to lunch at Oscar's. Gave Pierre the DOMINO SOLITAIRE repros. Walk with Pierre while Annie shopped. He suggested that I might be able to use some of his puzzles in articles in the U.S. and split the payments. Told him to send me copies of some of his articles and I would try to do something with them, tho I won't promise how soon.

In his hotel room there was a tile pattern [drawing of tile pattern] with hex halfs in a random pattern. It could make an interesting GAME board.
