Call from Phil Orbanes. I will probably be hearing from Carl Eisenberg. Carl is now working for "Learn, Inc." They have a series of children's books that Carl wants to change into GAMES. He approached Phil about doing it, but Phil doesn't want to take the time and suggested me. He said that if I decide to do the job I should get at least $1,000, and some of it up front. Carl has a habit of going off on a project before it is approved by the higher-ups, and then there is no money to pay for it.
He also asked if I would contribute 10% to I-Q. Yes. Altho I-Q is dormant now Phil thinks it will be useful in the future. For one thing, since Djoli Kansil has a majority of the "Gamut of Games" stock, Phil - with Van Zedwitz' approval - is putting all of his games under I-Q. Next spring Djoli is coming to New York and Phil and Van Zedwitz will try to talk him into selling his stock. The only expense in I-Q is a few hundred dollars franchise tax. Phil will go over the books soon and send me an accounting and the stock I have earned.
Phil said that the D.D.I. line is costing Paragon millions and Phil is sure they'll be dropping items, not adding them. Also there is a struggle between New York and California. Since wood is done in California and plastic in New York, Phil is sure that Manny Lefkowitz will not be pushing for wood items (TWICE AS HARD). [illegible strikeout] Finished the letter to Carol Peterson and typed it myself since BB went downtown to shop with Annie.
Pierre came here by subway.
He brought me a "proof sheet" of the art work for SIDOMINOS. "Robert Laffont" was going to put it out this year in a cheap version with thin cards that are held in the hand. But they have decided to wait until next year and do a more elaborate production.
Showed Pierre my pile of double books. He took the following: FOSTER'S SKAT MANUAL; THE OFFICIAL RULES OF CARD GAMES (1920-21); THE STANDARD HOYLE (Excelsior Publ. House - 1905); PATIENCE GAMES FOR THE FIRESIDE (Mrs. Cheney).
Also gave him S&T #39 to 44 and MOVES 11 to 16. In the mag with TANK saw that something was missing and will have to check.
Gave him the pads and rules for THE 6 PACK OF PAPER & PENCIL GAMES (to save room); FITTING & PROPER; THE RIGHT CONNECTIONS; a repro of DELPHI; the repro of CONQUEST I got from Phil Orbanes before getting the game itself.
Went over the list games I prepared on 9/24 [illegible strikeout] (Dates are from LA REVUE DU JOUET):-
- LE MONDE DES AFFAIRES (Mallory - John Laurent) (May '71). This company is out of business. Small chance of getting a copy.
- CHICAGO (Miro) (Mar.-Apr. '70). He has a good contact at Miro and will get me a copy.
- LA CITADELLE (Volumetrix) (June-July '70). Doesn't care for this company. I didn't push this game.
- NAVALTIC (Volumetrix) (June-July '70). Same as above.
