OCTOBER 1974 - SUNDAY 20 TWENTIETH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST - 293RD DAY - 72 DAYS TO COME
Made a rough board for FREAKY KING OF THE HILL and rough pcs. Played by myself and then with BB and Dana. From 2 to 4 play and each takes one of the characters. Move by throw of 4-sided die. When land on a space marked by an unused character, call it as a "friend." If land on own space or one of your "friends," move ahead number of spaces as you have "friends." If land on an opponent's space, he moves back the number of spaces as you have "friends." Incidentally, when land on an unused character's space call him even if he is another player's "friend." When land by die throw on another player- fight. Each throws the die and adds his "friends" to the throw. High moves forward 2 spaces, low back 2 spaces. If land on another player when moving other that on dice throw, move to next unoccupied space. Also no space counts on other than the die throw, except for the "Oops" space. Win by landing by direct count on "Hill." Otherwise continue down and around again. (It was rather fun.)
Later decided that, since there is so little space for rules, I'll have to eliminate the "fighting." To simplify, count only unoccupied spaces in moving. Tried it by myself and it is o.k. - or so it seemed.
Call from Pierre Berloquin. Made plans for tomorrow.
Called Claude and told him of the plans. He intends to bring two books for Pierre FINITE MATHEMATICS WITH BUSINESS APPLICATIONS and INTRODUCTION TO FINITE MATHEMATICS. He feels that there are loads of puzzle possibilities in them. The names didn't seem familiar to me, but later found that I had them both.
Earlier in the day went (with Edith and Dana) to a bazaar in White Plains. Bought THE SISTI CHALLENGE for $1.25. The rules were missing, but I found them in the 1963 diary.
Also bought 126 buttons - substantially the same - for $1.05

folder but couldn't locate it.
While waiting I called [drawn bracket] Phyllis Melhado (3M publicity) [drawn bracket] 135 W. 50th St. (16th floor) [drawn bracket] (977-8580)
Audrey Pierce learned that it was me and asked Phyllis to have me come up. I said that I'd be there probably this Friday (to pick up EVENTS and CONTIGO).
To Felicia. Stopped in at Herb Roth's and told him that I had an extra copy of WHO CAN BEAT NIXON? and suggested trading for OFFICE PARTY. He said that those games were not his (?) I said I bring him WHO CAN BEAT NIXON? anyway.
