Another call from Ralph Anspach. Don't rembe remember
the details. I intended to tell him about his representative,
Spence, not sending me a copy of ANTI-MONOPOLY. Called
him later and told him, just in case he might think I
got two from them. Told him about my column.
Call from Bob Gellman. He is writing to Alfons Rubbens trying to get more that 5% for PATTON and MACARTHUR. He will use as an argument that I am splitting my royalties 3 ways.
He is definitely doing CREATIVE FEATURES (see 7/18).
Picked up Pierre Berloquin at his hotel. He gave me the following: - A book of his - UNSOUVENIR D'ENFANCE D'EVARISTE GALOIS. - Repro of his column on S&T from SCIENCE ET VIE. - DIAMINO CHINOIS - LE CAMINO (4 tiles missing). Letter and glossy included. - LE TARIN - which is ROOK, but only rules for one game included. - LES VILLAGES - just the rules. (Stored in box with LE TARIN.) - Rules for various games with Vittet's "30 dice" and some puzzles. Rules for HIGH RISE are given in French and English. LES TREIZE is a new game. The rules are very rough, but Pierre at another time went over them with me. Each player has a hand of 3 dice. Starting at the center of the field the first player places one or more next to each other, including (I believe) at an angle. Object is to form lines of faces that add up to 13. They must be in a straight line, but can be on different planes. A "thirteen" with the pips of different colors is an "egg" and is marked in the player's column for that turn. A "thirteen" in the same color pips is a "bird" and scores one point. However if the player has an unused "egg" from this or previous turns, that scores for an additional point. A die can be piled on a die of the same body color and a "thirteen" using that dice scores a double. A third level, the highest permitted, scores triple. A die, on the first level only, placed on a scoring space of the same color on the board scores that many points. As many different "thirteens" as are made are scored. Faces used in previous "thirteens" may be covered. Vittet also sent a [illegible strikeout] PUZZLE using 5 dice which have to be placed so that their four face rows add to 21. (Told Pierre that so many of this type came out after INSTANT INSANITY that noone will look at one now.)
Pierre said that "Robert Laffont," who will be doing my game of SIDOMINOS will send me a copy of each of their adult games.
To Martin Gardner's Pierre and he spent a good part of the time talking, but I picked up a number of items.
Martin had a game sent in by G.R. Ruston, 71 Harcourt Rd., Redland, Bristol BS67RD, England. THE RING GAME. Each player has 5 rings of graduated sizes. Each player in turn places a ring in the center of the table. If a player
