10/9 OCTOBER 1974 - THURSDAY 10 283RD DAY - 82 DAYS TO COME
To Manny Lefkowitz. Showed him a little of TWICE AS HARD and left it with him.
He returned HOLEY TERROR. There was not enough interest in it to invest the money in molds for plastic pcs. At least 50,000 would have to be made. A wood item, to the contrary, can be started with 10,000 or even less.
We talked about the game business in general. Again he hears that 3M is looking to get out of games.
To "Gamut of Games." Phil Orbanes was constantly on the phone.
While waiting I looked at G&P #28. The only material
new to me was a short piece on a card game - BLUFF and a
reader's game MATHEMATICAL DICE. Phil also had #29. Forum
had some articles on letters on NINETY-NINE (Daivd Parlett) and
a mention that a 2 and 4 hand version is coming. Also readers
asked about the following games: A card railroad game -
which could be MAIN LINE, COLARITO, FARMING. An article on
card games played in pubs, including PINK NINES, CRASH, BASTARD,
PHAT, RACING ACES. A readers game KUVRO. A small ad for
LOGICA. In one of the Gamesviews there was CARTEL. (Later
discovered info on a game COLORITO in "European Research.")
Phil gave me their new ad sheet with CARTEL, INFINITY, REALM, MYWORD!, THE 6 PACK OF PAPER & PENCIL GAMES, (PAYOFF, THE GREAT RACES, OIL STRIKE, WORDS TIMES THREE, FINANCIER, SPY) BRIDGETTE, BACKGAMMON.
Phil said he'd send me one of each of the games in the new boxes, including the war games.
I got angry at Phil not talking to me and walked out.
To S.P.I. Gave Redmund my column for #47. Discussed what to do if he has more room. Also suggested that he call me if he has any questions.
I mentioned that Bob Champer had dropped from sight. Redmund said that [drawn bracket] Kevin Zucker [drawn bracket] 595-8865 would be a good one to take his place in helping me with WASHINGTON.
Took three copies of S&T to give to Claude.
Howie Barasch gave me a letter that was addressed to the magazine asking about NEBULA 19.
Decided to callPhil Orbanes. He said that he was just sending me an apologetic letter. Also he is sending me a box from a cereal. They need a FREAKIES game. (Incidentally while I was at his office he said that the president of Amway had turned down THE GOOD EARTH because they had inventory left over from last year. Phil & Kornblum are sure they can place it elsewhere.) I said that I was a little discouraged, but that I'd come up with something.
Incidentally I asked Manny Lefkowitz if he'd be interested in FIGHT CITY HALL (FUN CITY). Yes. I asked Phil if he would be interested in it. No.
