To "Games Gallery." Spoke to John Stephenson. He gave me copies of ELECTION X and HARE AND TORTOISE.
His store is small and a lot of it is devoted to CHESS and BACKGAMMON. He did have quite a few others tho, including PATTON and MACARTHUR. He recommends those for people who want to break into war-gaming. Told him they were mine.
He has the S.P.I. games (about 15 different titles) but says he won't reorder. "They don't give a damn about anybody." He said that he is surprised that I am connected with them. I said that all I do is write my column - and there is no opportunity to get another outlet.
He had a group of the Reiss - D.D.I. games, but only the dogs. He said that they were lousy and I said a couple of them were better - such as AIRPORT and EMPEROR OF CHINA. Apparently he picked the ones he had as remainders.
He didn't have the 3M games but said he intended to stock them. He called the sales office while I was there and a salesman, Mr. Casey who I think I met, will call. Told him which ones were mine.
I also told him about the "Gamut of Games" games and he was interested. I took his card (5 actually) to give to Phil. Also told him that BALI was a great word game.
I told him that he could call me anytime to ask any question - gave him my card.
Asked him if he was approached by off-beat companies. He showed me an incomplete prototype of a game called COME. The most important part was a large spinner in the form of a penus. Took an ad sheet. (Filed in '74 Misc.) He'll keep an eye out for others.
He mentioned my autographing games and I said sure. We'll set up a date before x'mas, and probably he'll advertise.
While I was in there there was a request for FACTS IN FIVE and for PLOY. He said he also had requests for ACQUIRE.
To Gamut of Games. Phil Orbanes was going to mail me copies of the contract covering FINANCIER, PAY OFF, OIL STRIKE, WORDS TIMES THREE, SPY, and THE GREAT RACES. I singed them and took one copy.
He also gave me a copy of a letter he got from Carl Eisenberg - while still at Hoi Polloi - releasing the following p&p games to us: AIR BATTLE, ALONE/TOGETHERNESS, COMBINATIONS, CROSSFIRE, DOUBLE-THINK, END OF THE LINE, EMPIRE, FINANCIER, FREEWORD, LAND BARON, THE GREAT RACES, HEXOWORD, MISSING LINK, NO WAY, OIL STRIKE, PAY OFF, PEACE, PLOT, POLITICAL POWER, RALLY, RENDEZVOUS, SOLITAIRE DICE, SPACE STATIONS, SPY, SUPER GHOSTS, TOURNEY, TRIVIA, TRICKY THREES, WORLD TRADE, XANDO.
THE GOOD EARTH has passed all the committees and is now up to the president at Amway. He usually accepts the committee reports.
THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN looks doubtful. The company is having second thoughts about the project.
