To S.P.I. As I came in someone was returning a copy of Parker of England's ESCAPE FROM COLDITZ (ESCAPE FROM COLDITZ CASTLE is the name of the Vic-Toy game) to Howie Barasch. I borrowed it and made repros of the board.
Spoke to Jim Dunnigan. I asked about the results of the game questionnaire that he had promised me. He never got around to having it typed. The first 25 games on the list will be listed in S&T.
From Manny, and then from Redmund leared learned that only IMPERIALISM,
GAMBIT, and BIGWIG made it into S&T #46. Redmund can
make no promises concerning #47.
Took a copy of LEE MOVES NORTH and the missing sheet from DESERT WAR (see 12/12/73). Took two copies of MOVES #16. This discussed WORLD WAR II and mentions that the following will be revised: ARMAGEDDON, PHALANX, CENTURION, DARK AGES, RENAISSANCE OF INFANTRY, COMBAT COMMAND, & RED STAR/WHITE STAR.
Mention of BLAST I - a simplified RED STAR/WHITE STAR made for the
Dept. of Defense - and PA BLAST II - a multi-player version for DOD.
A number of articles on WORLD WAR II, including an official multi-player version. Letters on SNIPER!, SINAI, WAR IN THE EAST, KAMFPANZER, DESTRUCTION OF ARMY GROUP CENTER, BARBAROSSA, NATO. Review of BAR-LEV. Reader's reviews of NORAD SOLOMONS CAMPAIGN, BULL RUN, FALL OF ROME, QUEBEC 1759, SNIPER!.
To M.B. [Milton Bradley] and spoke to Terry Seymour. She rcd. a letter asking about the bearing off in BACKGAMMON. I gave her the answer. Looked at the rules booklet - by Lowe - and it was not at all clear.
She said that she would like to have me go on a retainer to answer questions for her and review rules. At present she usually sends them to the development dept. - headed by Jim Houlihan - and she is not sure how well they answer. She asked for info on my background. When I told her about AGOG she said she had never seen the copy I gave to Mickey Mackay. Promised to bring her two copies - one for herself and one to send to M.B. [Milton Bradley] as [illegible strikeout] as propaganda.
Told her that although I liked PRIZE PROPERTY a lot, the lack of space will force me to give it a short review before X'mas and then come back to it later.
To Cadaco and got the list price of DOUBLETAKE - about $2.25.
Before going downtown got a phone call from Manny Lefkowitz
Phil Orbanes. Spoke about my meeting with Manny Lefkowitz today.
As far as he is concerned I can provide them with any items they
want. I asked about the agent's fees and he would like me to give
them to I-Q rather than "Gamut of Games." I asked how
Van Zedwitz would feel about I-Q. Phil answered that Van Zedwitz
realizes that "Gamut of Games" is risky and wants Phil to protect
himself. Said that I'd try to come in after meeting Manny. I said
that I'd tell Felicia later
To Reiss Games. Showed Manny: HABITAT (too expensive);
