August 1974 - Tuesday 27
239th day - 126 days to come

Made another adjustment in the starting position in ORGANISMS. One space in each organism is safer than all the other.

Called Fabio Coen and asked about my "Art Game Book." He apologized for not getting with it and promised to do so. I asked if we should get together to go over MONDRIAN, SPRINGER, MIRÓ, ARP, DELAUNAY, and KLEE before he meets with the sales force. He said instead that I should prepare a short description of each game. Said I'd have it by the end of next week.
I mentioned that I was shocked at what I owed on AGOG. He said that the new contract could cover it.

and HELIX. The last is a word game where a player makes a word by using letters at the end of the opponent's last placed word and then going from there.
Another 4 were not accepted. DIGI-MAZE - the layout is as shown, but larger. [drawing of 9 diamonds, with small circles at each corner, arranged into a larger diamond shaped board] A number is each circle. A total is chosen and each player works from the top down trying to get closer to the chosen total. (Rought idea.)
DIGI-WORD - A short word is written on a grid as shown for "A." [drawing of 6 by 6 grid with dots marking the intersections of the left 3 columns; the bottom middle square is labeled "out"] Try to guess opponent's word by calling coordinates as in BATTLESHIPS. (Rought idea.)
WORD GOLF.
SOLO SCAN. Players alternate calling letters which can be placed anywhere. Idea is to form long words which can be traced out going in any direction and turning at will. (Rough idea.)
Got all the repros [reproductions] at Boston Post Road and the lady was very accommodating with the boards and small pieces.

Called Al Richter to call off postpone our date for 9/21, since we are invited to surprise party for Harold Saperstein. Definite date to be picked next week,
Called Stan Chess to say we'd try to make his party 9/14. He is not doing anything on games now. George Bredehorn has not been able to place any of his games. He does have a contract to do a puzzle book for a small publisher. No advance payment.
