24 SATURDAY - AUGUST 1974 ST. BARTHOLOMEW, APOSTLE - 236TH DAY - 129 DAYS TO COME
Call from Jerry D'Arcey during day. It looks very good for EASY COME - EASY GO with Parker. They are also still considering TOP DOG. I told him that Aladdin is taking four of my games and that I am also doing some special projects. I asked about MONOLITH and he said that 3M is still considering it.
Call Earl - who had called yesterday while I was out and spoke to BB. Gave him Claude's message (see 8/22). Nothin specifically about games.
Made up 10x10 board for ORGANISMS and a set of pieces.
Played with Al Richter at night and made some changes in
my original ideas. Decided on the following: Each player has
3 organisms - 1-6 cell, 1-7 cell, and 1-8 cell. Each organism
has one "control cell," 2 - "attack cells," and the rest are
"plain cells." A cell moves either one space in any direction,
including diagonally or by one or more jumps over a
single cell or a line of cells. Opponents cells can never be
jumped. If one or more cells get separated from the control
cell of its organism, these cells die. They are turned over
and remain on spaces until the game is over. If a control
cell is completely isolated from any other cell of that
organism it also dies. Dead cells can be jumped by either
player and can be combined with the player's own cells in
jumping. An enemy cell is captured by ending a jump on that
cell. A cell can also capture by moving - but only orthogonally.
Plain cells can only capture a plain cell and they must be
separated from their control cell (suicide) at the time of
capture. Win by capturing or killing two of the opponent's
control cells. If a player makes a move that eit or jump
that either captures or kills the opponents second control
cell while his own second control cell is also killed, the player
making the play wins.
Al liked it. I saw, however that I had to change the initial layout, which made certain organisms much more vulnerable than others.
Brought Brian a copy of DOUBLE TAKE.
Al made two more copies of the material I gave him on GAMES WITH PENCIL AND PAPER and gave them to me.
At "Nassan Farmer's Market" bought 6 packages of 5"x3" index cards at 20¢ each and 2 packages of 6"x4" index cards for 39¢ each.
Al Richter told me that Earl Perel had contacted him about DON'T BLOW A FUSE. Earl has already contacted Parker about it. Al has been working on it and expects to have it ready in a month or so.
