8/18 AUGUST 1974 - MONDAY 19 231ST DAY - 134 DAYS TO COME
Call from Felicia. The Aladdin contract for TOTALLY--, INTERSECTION, PUSHOVER, and THE BRAIN GAME came! I'll go to sign it today. Asked her about a cutoff. No!
To Felicia. Looked at the Aladdin contract. There is no mention of 500,000 - simply that after 300,000 the royalty rate is 5%. Signed. // The law V.P.'s name is Ms. Allaire Urban Karzon. Looked at the 3M contract for NO WAY. There was a clause that any other p&p games I submitted to them would have "the same terms and conditions" - which would include the cut-off dates in this contract. I suggested changing "the same" to "similar." Just then Kathy Hentzen called about something. Felicia mentioned it to her and she said to change & initial it. We did. Since there were 3 copies I took one.
Felicia spoke to Bob Johnson today. He said that "as of today things look good" and that he'd have good news for her in Sept. They are returning HONORABLE RELATIONS, since in the future they will market items as games, not puzzles. Felicia said that next time she spoke to Bob she will tell him that Aladdin is taking a game (TOTALLY--) that Hallmark returned. (So what?)
Felicia showed me a magazine, INCOME OPPORTUNITIES, which had a letter asking about selling a game. The printed answer suggested getting in touch with "Creative Communications and Research" (which I informed Felicia was Gini Scott) and with I.S.
A lot of inventors have contacted her. She opened a letter
from one with a game ODYLE, two sets of rules and
magnets. She was going to send it back but I started
trying to do one of the manipulative puzz problems.
Told her that the game was nothing, but it had interest
as a series of problems. She'll keep. Gave me one set of rules.
At the "Gift Show" she ran into Alice McElhone. Among her
other games she was displaying HOLIDAY.
I reminded her that she had told me that she had other games to show me. Couldn't find any.
Herb Roth dropped in. Among other things, he said that he heard that Bob Reiss is not doing well. I said that since Reiss and Mag-Nif parted, neither seemed to be making out. He hears, to the contrary, that Mag-Nif is doing fine. I forgot to bring the TOTALLY-- set so that we could play.
To "Gamut of Games." Phil Orbanes said that his trip to Boston seems to have been a success. The one he showed THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN to loved it. No it[s] just a question of getting final approval from the higher ups.
Marty Kornblum showed me a picture of the final presentation
to Amway of THE GOOD EARTH. Looked good. It looks now as
if they take it there will be a flat fee - but a substantial
one.
