21 Monday - August 1974
224th day - 141 days to come
Made a new Illustration for TOTALLY-- and BB typed the rest of the page.
Call from Felicia. She had to go to "Gift Show" and couldn't
be at the office. Told her that I'd drop the TOTALLY-- material
in her office slot.
Yesterday at the "Gift Show" she saw Charles Wibel. He had a
new game - JURISPRUDENCE - which she said didn't look very
interesting. // The fellow at 3M exhibit was quite enthused.
sales are up 125% (from what?).
To Scientific American. To lunch with Steven Fischer, and
also Gerard Piel, the publisher, and the treasurer - whose
name I didn't get. Spent about 2 hours talking about games
in general. They didn't seem to be trying to get specific
info from me - rather they seemed to be sizing me up. At
the end Piel said that when Martin Gardner is back from
vacation we'll have another meeting.
To "Gamut of Games." Played THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN with
Phil Orbanes, Mart Kornblum, and (I believe also) Al Zygier.
They liked it. Discussed the art work.
I asked about the other projects. Nothing new.
Phil asked about my time on INFINITY and I said over a
week, but that I stopped counting at 40 hours. He asked
if $750 for the two games (I had previously told him 12
hours for REALM) would be O.K. Yes - altho I had originally
quoted $15 an hour. He gave me a check.
I asked if he had played INFINITY with my new rules.
Yes, and he liked them.
I asked about ordering stationery thru "Gamut." It is somewhat
of a problem, and he thinks that I can do just as
well if I go myself and mention the company name.
The Store is {Summit Office Supply
26th St. - between Broadway & 6th Ave.
To S.P.O. and gave my S&T #46 column to Redmund together
with glossies for PRIZE PROPERTY, KING OIL, and BIGWIG. The
most he can promise me is half a page - about half of the
column. But if there is more room he'll use as much as
he can.
Took a copy of FRIGATE. Took S&T #41 thru #45 to give to
Claude and #43, 44, 45 to give to Harold Saperstein.
Took three copies of MOVES #15. Discussions of following upcoming
games: OPERATION OLYMPIC, STARFORCE: ALPHA CENTAURI, PATROL,
COMBINED ARMS, WORLD WAR III. The following games are to be
retreaded: GRUNT, ARMEGEDDON, PHALANX, CENTURIAN, DARK AGES,
RENAISSANCE OF INFANTRY. Feature articles on SINAI. Letter on
CA, THE EAST IS RED (optimal rules), AMERICAN CIVIL WAR,
SNIPER variant, KAMFPANZER. "A compendium of Wargaming Periodicals"
lists quite a few magazines - none of intereste to me
