JULY 1974 - FRIDAY 26 ST. ANNE - 207TH DAY - 158 DAYS TO COME
Sent $1.00 for ROLLER-LAND CHECKERS (see 7/23).
Call from Wald. He is coming tonight. Lawless has his only model of the Cartel GAME, but Wald will bring a copy of his rules for me to read. Lawless seemed to like the game and promised to back to Wald in 2 weeks.
Rcd. the revised rules for SPACE HUK. Also a note from Thomas Galloway saying that I can send him another 50¢ if I would have ordered the new rules.
Rcd. a check for $100 from "Gamut of Games" - Phil Orbanes. For a "'74 royalty advance." (?) (Deposited in Chemical.)
Rcd. 1974 TOYS Directory Issue.
Wrote up variations for classic REALM.
Called Bob Champer's number. Left word for him to call me.
The Soucie's, the Rothmans's and Wald here for supper. Played 7-hand RIP-OFF, Played o.k., but 7 is too many, I won altho I never "swindled."
Wald told me about the changed in his Cartel GAME. There are still 20 countries, but each one has only one commodity. A "block" is obtained by fully developing the commodity in three countries on a board side. Win by getting two blocks, or by fully developing all five of one commodity. Players can form cartels, which double the profits when another player lands on their countries. However, other players will be more anxious to get a "summons" against one or the other of the members of Cartel. (see 715) A "Summons" is gotten by landing in a "court" (without the need of catching the player to serve it.) Only a 7 settles the case, the one throwing it first winning. ((Rough idea.)
Claude picked up a copy of a book for me which I already had, so he kept it without charging me. The name of the book: 50 GAMES OF SOLITAIRE.
Watched THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN. Not very interesting.
While fiddling around with some small pieces of paper got an idea for a game - tentative name ORGANISMS. On a quadrille board each player has one, or more "organisms." There are a group of from 4 to maybe 7 markers which are placed so that they are joined. They move by one pc. making jumps over the other pcs., any number of jumps, and ending in a new position. Attack an enemy "organism" by landing on a pc. of that organism. The markers can be differentiated with certain ones only being able to attack, and others being fatal when attacked. (To be developed.)
Wald looked at PATTON and said he liked it. Said he will buy a copy.
