18 SATURDAY - MAY 1974
ARMED FORCES DAY - 138TH DAY - 227 DAYS TO COME
Finished checking all 60 NO WAY problems. Drew up a sheet
with two layouts, one with the name, the other without.
Got 8 repros at Boston Road and cut them apart.
Call from Felicia to say that the 3M check for 3M foreign royal-
ties reached her, and to thank me.
Rcd. three copies of a new contract from 3M concerning the
foreign royalties. Seems o.k.
Showed Phil Laurence the NO WAY problem and he solved one with
a lot of help from me. Then he gave up on another.
Played KLEE with Phil and beat him easily. After we set up in
secret I decided it would be easier to set up one group on
turn. Naturally duplications are not permitted.
Played a couple of games of SPRINGER. One ended with both
players being blocked. I decided to call this a win for the
second player. Phil always tried to go from one corner to
another and I decided that I'll have to do something to get
away from this. At present this is the logical way to win.

She saw TORUS at Mag-Nif and wondered if it was too much
like SKYSCRAPERS. I told her that I had told Keith about it when
I first gave him my puzzle. With my new changes they are even
more different now. Said hello to Bill Caruson who was there for a
moment.
- Gameophiles: Spoke to Charles Wibel and complained that he never
sent me review copies. He took my card and said he'd send them.
Took a catalog with some other info, and a duplicate for Phil.
Listed are FRUSTABLES, CORNERED-BUT-UNDAUNTED, THE CONNECTION (a
puzzle) YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING (Gini Scott's ROAD MAP - see 2/26/73);
EMOTE, POLICE STATE (which he has taken over); FRONT PAGE; PENTAGON;
FLIP AND FLOP, SYNTACTICS, COLORATION (which Wibel said was a
color SCRABBLE - but not to quote that. There are tiles of the 6 colors
which are placed in groups without repeating colors - from 2 to 6 -
but can continue after 6 by mirror symmetry); and
THE GREAT CITY GAME - LONDON (ROME-PARIS) three versions.
- American Greeting. On a small lower shelf saw the previous games and
one new one BUCK-A-LUCK. There are 4 dials set in a row and

are separate and can either be moved
together [illegible strikeout] or can be set to a
different relationship. 2 play and take
