MAY 1974 - MONDAY 13
133RD DAY - 232 DAYS TO COME
Downtown to Fabio Coen. We played a game of ARP and
parts of SPRINGER, MONDRIAN, DELAUNAY, and KLEE.
He likes the general idea and wants to try it out on the
sales dept. For that he'll need rules and I promised
to get them to him in 2 to 3 weeks. I said that they
won't be in final shape and that is o.k. with him.
He had a gal run of [off] 20 of each game and gave me half
of them.
He doesn't think we can use SPRINGER since it looks
too much like ALTAI DESIGN and there is no need for
a scoring area. He wants a scoring area added to ARP.
I said that I could come up with another game and
more if he wishes. For the present he'll work with the
games on hand - after I provide the rules.
Told him that Nelson is doing AGOG in England and he seemed
pleased.
He saw Alex Randolph in Venice. Alex was upset over the
fall off of royalties and Hallmark's poor performance.
After a visit to (probably) Hallmark, where he sold
another game he felt better.
To lunch at the Cornell Club. Before this Fay had shown
me a copy of FOUL PLAY AND OTHER PUZZLES OF ALL KINDS by
Vintage Books - a Random House subsidiary. Later, when
Fay was out to lunch, Fabio gave it to me saying that
Fay can pick up another.
To Felicia's. Mike Riley there. He showed us the following:
COLOR PYRAMID - there are five pcs. consisting of two
balls fastened together, [drawing of balls fastened together]. These are to be
built into a pyramid so that no two balls of the same color touch.
BOXED IN - there are six pcs. similar to the one shown
(which is most likely not one of those actually used). [drawing of piece]
Object is to mesh them together into a cube.
CAM SHAFT - a large number of wheels are mounted
on two shafts, of different sizes and off center
in different directions. The two are mounted so that
the wheels mesh. Object is to turn the shafts to that the a ball
is moved from one end to the other.
O.K. JOE'S (named for the bar where he first
got the idea). There are four rings, as shown, [drawing of rings]
mounted on a shaft. When still the loops do not line up.
The object is to start them swinging so that a stick can be
inserted with a single thrust.
THE WEAVER - 15 pegs are mounted on a wood base. A string
is tied to one of these and the other end is tied to a loose
peg, for which there is a hole. Object is to thread the
string so that it touches each peg once and just makes
it to the hole. (I did it easily. He said that so far
each solution has been different.
SHINGLES - a game for 2. There is a base with 25 pegs.
