APRIL 1974 - FRIDAY 19
109TH DAY - 256 DAYS TO COME

Rcd. [received] another ad for SAFETY BELT GAME from gov't [government] publishing. (Filed in 1974 'Misc. [miscellaneous])

Decided to use the following games in my next column: ALIEN SPACE, NAVAL GAME, 5-5, THREE PLAYER CHESS.

Call from Roger Verhulst (he was too busy earlier in the week) and visit earlier later in the day.
He thinks that I have all of his regular CHICAGO TRIBUNE columns but he'll check when he gets back. He has completed, and has been paid for, a roundup which includes PATTON. He doesn't know when it will be in, or if he will notified. If he is he will send me a repro. [reproduction] Incidentally, he made $50 a column from the "Tribune."
He interviewed me with a tape recorder and also took pictures. [illegible strikeout] He'll write up the article and then it is up to the NEWS editor.
I asked him about Larry Blandin and the INTERNATIONAL GAME SHOW. He has only seen Larry once since last June and he was drunk in a bar, and looked run down.

While Roger was here got a long distance call from Mrs. Lillian Silver. She wanted to discuss the Xerox puzzle exhibit with me but I had to cut her off after about ten minutes (Roger had limited time). We both didn't quite know what the other would be doing and we will try to get together, with Bernie Lane present, when she is in New York during the week of 5/5.
She did say that she has gotten permission from some museums to borrow some works of art and is working on others. She mentioned a work by Escher (spelling?) she that she has obtained which shows a "mobeous strip" (spelling?) [Möbius strip]. She would like some kind of exhibit, with movement, that illustrates the "strip."

Played 5-5 with BB. It slowed up at times and I thought up a simple way to speed it up. Will put it in the column.

Looking at the TIMES book section for 4/19 and found an article with some historical material on "Crossword Puzzles." (Filed in '74 Misc. [1974 miscellaneous])

Drew up a board for 4-hand INTERSECTION. Made it to fit the box from which I long ago removed the game of HARNESS RACING.
