MARCH 1974 - MONDAY 18
77TH DAY - 288 DAYS TO COME
Called Bob Gellman and he called me back. I'll go there
Friday to look at MACARTHUR boards if the doctor lets me.
Called Barbara Heine at ESQUIRE. Told her about WIRETAP and
will have BB bring it to her tomorrow. I told her that
I would like to have my name listed with FITTING & PROPER
and also to have some of my games listed with the rules
for WIRETAP. She said that she couldn't do both, only
the one I preferred. Definitely having my games listed with
WIRETAP.
Wrote the rules for WIRETAP and BB typed them. At the
end listed the following of my games:- ACQUIRE, SLEUTH,
EXECUTIVE DECISION, FITTING & PROPER, THE RIGHT CONNECTIONS,
PATTON, MACARTHUR, HOLIDAY, VENTURE, and MONAD.
Call from Carl Eisenberg. He wants to leave Hoi Polloi and
asked my advice about another job in games. Spoke to him in
general terms about the various companies.
Call from Felicia. She tried to get Harold Frankel to ask
him about POP-SHAPE-AND SHATTER. Not in and she thinks
that he is sick.
She has another potential client - Michael Riley, who is
the inventor of ARCHIEBALL and CANNONBALL PUZZLE. He told
her that Al Stack never gave him any royalties. When his lawyer
complained Stack removed the game from his catalog. (But
the puzzle is still there?)
Arranged to have BB bring SKYSCRAPERS to her tomorrow.
Finished 12 pcs. squares for the GAME of 3/10. Tentative name
STEPPING STONES. (See '68 and '72 for other uses I have made
for this name.)
Played with BB. Used 6 pcs squares and 4 pcs. each. Worked
o.k. but some setups are definitely superior to others.
One way of equalizing would be to play the same setup twice,
switching colors. The player completing first scores one
point for each move it takes the opponent to complete. Another
possibility is to allow the players to choose their own -
or possibly their opponents color. If both want the same,
bid a number of moves you will beat by opponent by.
[Actually this happened tomorrow - but what difference does it make.]
Rcd. another letter from Alister MacIntyre concerning their
"Play Money Tournament." Also sent a copy of a letter he sent
to 3M, soliciting games at least and suggesting that they
take a booth. Among other games that were listed as having
been played last year were TREK and STRATEGY.
Rcd. NOST-ALGIA #167. Phil Cohen gives more variations of the
GO board: MOEBIUS GO, CYLINDER GO CYLINDRICAL GO,
TOROIDAL GO, KLEIN BOTTLE GO, DOUBLE MOEBIUS GO, SPHERICAL GO,
(cont. on 3/17)
