MARCH 1974 - MONDAY 4
63RD DAY - 302 DAYS TO COME
Rcd. a note from Jerry D'Arcey from Jamaica. Sent him
a short letter.
Call from Felicia. She went to Gift Show.
- Whitehall, a Mass. Co., had a series of p&p games consisting
of a 50 page pad (smaller than 3M's) and two pencils, and
retails for $1. The titles were: 5 square WORD-O, PYRAMID,
GIANT TIC-TAC-TOE, BATTLES. They also had a "Pick-a-pack-of-
games" for $2 consisting of 5 SQUARES, HANGMAN, ANAGRAMS,
TIC-TAC-TOE, THE DOT GAME, CATEGORIES. They were very en-
thusiastic at their acceptance.
- Leister Games had a series of p&p party and shower, etc,
games.
LIAR'S POKER (a European import) did well.
- 3M was listed in directory, but noone was there.
- Alice McElhone. She said that both shows - Toy Fair and Gift
Show - were a disaster.
She rcd. a letter from Douglas Bolton. Said that as soon as he
looked at TRAVELINE carefully he realized it wasn't for Cadaco.
The fellow in charge of accepting games at Aladdin called her
a few times and got the answering service. When she called him -
long distance - he was very rude. He told her that they had
changed TRIPPPLES around to make it into a family fun game. They
are not interested at all in puzzles or strategy games. Inci-
dentally, he said they'd sell a million [illegible strikeout] TRIPPPLES. They
want family fun games in the $5 range. They want first look.
I said that I'd like to see how they changed TRIPPPLES from
a strategy game to a family fun game. She said that if I
mentioned Alice McElhone to Dan Niesan at 200 Fifth maybe I
can get a copy.
Harold Frankel of Kohner, sent her an inventor with a PUZZLE
he liked, but not for them. She thinks it is a very ordinary
manipulative puzz maze puzzle. She'll show it to me, since she
agreed to handle it as a favor to Harold.
Told her I got the review copies of PENTOMINOES, etc. from Hallmark.
Told her I'd like to bring in SUPERGHOSTS for her to send to
3M for the p&p line. She said she wouldn't send it unless
she likes it. "She has been looking thru my files since 1965
and reading all the letters------" No particular conclusion
and I didn't push it.
Made date to bring ENTREPRENEUR, EXPLORATION, CONQUEST,
WILDCAT, BREAK THE HOUSE back to her Thursday - 11:30 A.M.
Wrote to Gini Scott. Enclosed DODECA and UNO folders and
"Un-com'mon games sheets. Mentioned catalogs I have for her, SLEUTH,
SIMULATION/GAMING/NEWS, Tom Atwater, Alex Randolph.
Wrote to Frank Armbruster. Mentioned U. of Santa Clara, ARVESTA,
THIRTY CUBES, and POTENTIAL.
