19 TUESDAY - FEBRUARY 1974
50TH DAY - 315 DAYS TO COME

To Press Room and took for myself:- creative
- Creative Playthings. Nothing of interest. (Discarded.)
- Invicta. "Vic-Toy" with COOKS TOURS, SPACE LINES, GO FOR BROKE,
ESCAPE FROM COLDITZ CASTLE. Also catalog of "Educational Aids."
- Shindana Toys. Kept news item on "Shindana" taking over "Soular
Productions." Also glossy and piece on AFRO-AMERICAN HISTORY MYSTERY GAME.
- Owens-Illinois. SUPER SOOTH, FINDERS-BEEPERS, and non-game items.
Took the following for Gini Scott (if she still wants them
after I write to her): Explorations, Schaper, Parker, Skor-Mor,
Un-Com'-mon games, Lakeside, S&R, Ideal, Eltron, International Games,
Wff 'N Proof, 3M, Cadaco, Vic-Toy, Alabe, Stancraft, Franklin
(the last two came from other sources).
Picked up TOYS TRADE NEWS (2/19/74). Article on CONQUEST (by Donald Benge).
Pc. with picture on DOUBLETAKE.
To Ideal. Spoke to Zeke Rose and looked at showroom quickly. All the
non-action things have been dropped.
To A.H. [Avalon Hill] rep's showroom. Don Greenwood not in for the show. Spoke to
Tom Shaw a few minutes and asked him to have Don contact me if
Don is still interested in my writing for THE GENERAL. Took a sheet
on 1776, their new game. He'll send me one when it is in production.
To M.B. [Milton Bradley] Terry Seymour showed me through the M.B. showroom. Saw CROSS UP,
PRIZE PROPERTY, SLAM BACK, ROLLER DERBY, KING OIL, HOMESTRETCH,

a redo of WILDLIFE, COLUMBO, CONNECT FOUR. At E.S. Lowe Mickey Mackay

joined us. I told her about Roger Verhulst's complaint that M.B. [Milton Bradley]
doesn't recognize him. She'll call me Thurs. to get his home address
(she didn't). She'll take me to lunch in the near future. Looked at
CHALLENGE YAHTZEE and LIARS DOLLAR BILL POKER at Lowe's. Took a
folder with "new games" and also an 1973 "buyer's catalog," and
some other general info.
They prepared a list of things to send me PRIZE PROPERTY,
KING OIL, CROSS UP (I think), COLUMBO, WILDLIFE, CHALLENGE YAHTZEE,
HEAD TO HEAD, DOLLAR BILL POKER, and SUB SEARCH. (I mentioned
that for some of them just looking would be enough. Mickle said to
take them and give them away if I don't want to keep it them.)
To Felicia's. Jim Rockwell of Schaper (who I originally met when
he was with Stancraft) came to look at things. Don't remember
whether Felicia showed him anything else but he wanted Haus
Goldschmidt's SPIDER and my SPACE sent. Felicia though
of the name SPACE BOXES. After he left we put them in boxes and
she gave them to her neighbor for U.P.S. pickup.
Told her about Eric Naiburg and VECTOR and CARAPACE. To handle
them she wants 35% with a deductible advance of $100.
Zena Gelman, who is somewhere out west now, sent her a privately
published game - SPEED DASH!! It is a race game based on gliders.
In order to make sure you have enough altitude to reach the
next "thermal" players must stay in "thermals" but can risk it
with less than a perfectly safe amount. Can try shortcuts thru
the mountains, etc. Played with dice, but some chance for choice.
Each player has a set of chips of his color and self-stick
circles are printed with different altitudes.
Gave her Ideal and Fisher-Price Catalogs.
